Question about replacing mirror caps on powerfold mirrors

Is the process to replace the mirror caps on powerfold mirrors the same as on non-powerfold mirrors? I was about to order the checkered mirror caps and suddenly realized I need to get the powerfold versions.

BTW, does anyone know what's going on with Morristown Mini's Parts website? It looks like this afternoon they moved over to eBay and the site is horrendous compared to their great original non-eBay website. I'm hoping they're having technical difficulties rather than ditching their original web store.

I would think it would be the same process. As you mentioned the powerfold mirrors aren't exactly the same size as the regular mirrors but replacing the caps should still be the same.

Thanks for the reply, SimpsonGI. I'm assuming that the process will be the same...guess we'll find out! Interesting you got your Mini at Rasmussen. Where I ordered mine and Pigwidgin is due to be born this Friday. Yippee!

Congrats on the upcoming "due date"

My mother-in-law has a Mini being built with an estimated born on date of the 29th but if it falls into the same timing as mine was, it will be born on the 1st or 2nd. (She ordered hers the day I took deliver of mine ). I'm estimating she'll be able to take delivery somewhere between Nov 9th - 12th.

Works for me (clicked on Accessories link at morristownmini.com): http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214217
They have always run a separate eBay store in addition to the normal web store (BTW, every MINI dealer website has one, but selection and prices vary).

Thanks for the congrats! I'm pretty psyched. I think it's gonna be worse waiting for it to come across on the boat than it has to get it built.

rkw -- I spoke to Morristown Mini and apparently they updated their website this past weekend which was the cause of the error. They sent me another link which I got all the way down to the "submit" button on an order and it puked. So I gave up and just called them to place an order over the phone. But I would think by now they have the kinks out of it. I didn't find their eBay store to be as easily traversed so very happy that they got their regular site back up!

Meant also to say, SimpsonGI, that that's cool about your mom-in-law getting her own Mini! Sounds like she'll be getting hers around the same time I get mine (although I'm hoping for the first week in November).

I have an 07 MC. How do I know if I have powerfold or not. I know it sounds like a stupid question, and I really think if I had them I'd know.. but want to make sure.

Also here is the only place I could find chrome caps for an 07, $139.95 for the set
http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...or_covers.html

The ones at Morris say "02-06"

Does anyone know another dealer that has them for less than 139?

Hi Tess --

That's not a dumb question because I thought I had powerfold and didn't. So I ended up with the wrong mirror caps and had to get them exchanged. I would ask your dealer just to make sure and would assume you'd have some sort of button or toggle switch to make the mirrors fold in if you had them. I made the wrong assumption that when I got the cold weather package that came with powerfold mirrors and it didn't.

thanks. I do have a button that moves the actual mirror, but not to fold them in so I don't think I have powerfold

It is actually the same control to fold them in as to adjust the mirrors, you turn the **** all the way to the left or right and they will fold in/out provided you are not exceeding a certain speed at the time (without looking in the manual I think it is roughly 25 MPH or less for it to work).

hmm, who knew? I'll have to try it. By fold in/out do you mean push the button in or out or push it up or down?

I tried it, going 0mph in my driveway, engine on.. nothing happened except the actual mirror moving around. I don't think I have powerfold. I'm going in next week for my 1st service, I'll add this to my list of things to ask about.

Thanks!
