I said "might be construed" meaning someone may view it an a degratory mannor. Go read the Wiki article on "go fast stripes"

No, a 4x4 not used as intended means they are rich

I owned my car before Magnum hit the air. My first ride ina Ferrari was in a 246 Dino coupe. As soon as the engine fired, I was hooked.

It was very, very tough to say goodbye but I I lost my storage garage and time to drive the car was limited. Acted quickly before I changed my mind.

Thanks for bringing back a thread from "09-21-2007" to tell us that.

unless you know someone at a jiffy lube or a oil can henrys, for the love of god do not take it in to one of these places, but unfortunately the people who do go to these places, do not read NAM or MINI2.

btw...they do have 10 dollar light bulbs, and know how to vacuum out a car, steal all your change, and rip off anybody that doesn't know they make their money on the other services that they push on you.

had a girlfriend freak out once cause she spent her whole pay check once because, they talked her into it. (but she was naive as forest gump)

I have a very pronounced burble pop on my 06 JCW with factory JCW header and exhaust vs my 02 with Milltek catback but attributed it to the header, yes no?????

If you didn't know that the burble was there to impersonate old, big-displacement engines, does that make it fake?

If the sole purpose of the burble (to me) is to make the exhaust note sound cool, doesn't that put it in the category of cosmetic mods (spinners, custom vinyl, custom paint, etc)... just audio cosmetics, not visual.

Fake or not, I love my '06 burble-factory... especially with the Alta 2.5" sportone exhaust!

I guess one solution for those who miss the popping is to have Emeril Lagasse sit in the back seat yelling "BAM!" at every shift.

I played and coached a little b-ball.
My favorite non-ball-related drill was the "taking the charge drill" where we'd try for the Oscar and fall down when bumped by the ball handler. Yowsa.
Now, is that fake too? Making that fake foul (or two) can win a game...

Also to ponder.
How come I drive so much better/faster when I crank up the Temptations "Ball of Confusion"? You know what I mean --- you have your song too.
Imagine it in your head right now; feel the wheel. You're sitting more upright now, aren't you? Got a little more attention span going on?
C'mon admit it.

Little visceral things matter to the go-fast formula. The right burble, the right stripe, the right feel of the steering wheel or seat, the smell of leather, cheerleaders....

Fake? Indeed.
But fake can be pretty motivating.
I've known an Elaine or two...

Wow, just chanced on this thread tonight... and I learned some new things I didn't know before. Like, the burble on my '05 is engineered, I just thought that was how the car was built. I guess you could say, it was 'built to sound that way' but I honestly just thought it was the natural sounds of the exhaust. As far as my stripes went, yeah I just thought they looked cool, went with my color scheme, evoked a sense of nostalgia with the old Mini's, and what have you. It was kind of a more 'sporty' look I guess you could say. Reading through the thread I actually almost felt embarrassed that I had both the burble and stripes on my car and wanted to get rid of both immediately. Is that wrong? Ignorance was bliss!

I just read this whole (old) thread and my question is still not answered:

What the hell are muffler bearings?

Maybe I need those... but they'll have to wait until I pay for those new cross-drilled brake lines.

Oh, and do you really want to add some snap, crackle and pop to your exhaust? Just drill a bunch of 3/8 inch holes in the end of your muffler. Or, hack-saw the whole muffler off and clamp on a Cherrybomb or Thrush. That's what we did "back in the day". You didn't think those old muscle cars sounded like that from the factory did you?

Well put

There's no reason the R56 had to be neutered for the North American market, the European cars have the pop & burble, the JCW has the pop & burble... Hopefully Jan/RMW can be convinced to throw it back in with his new tunes The sound's a throwback, but the Mini's a retro-car ! I want all the attitude, not just the appearance.

Sometimes I log onto youtube just to listen to videos of the R53 exhaust burble... it sounds wonderful to me. Just the "right" amount of noise so as to excite the driver, but not offend the ppl out in public with an obnoxious sound.
