R56 Sparkling Silver Black or White?
Sparkling Silver Black or White?
I am taking a liking to the new Sparkling Silver. But the problem is the contrasting roof color. My first MINI (MINI IN Black) was Astro Black monotone. I wish that I had went with white or Silver roof as they were options on the 2006 edition.
Sparkling Silver owners, what did you get and why?
Black really stands out. But my previous experience with a black roof was a hot interior. So hot that the warning decals on the visors actually blistered!
A white roof would be so cool. I am after all a White Roof Radio listener, but none of those guys have white roofs
So fans of Sparkling Silver, what contrasting roof color should I get
Thanks in advance!

I like my white roof - even though the sunroof's add dark to the top. My primary reason for white was that it 'appears' not to show dirt as bad. I have to travel a bit of dirt road. It is impossible for black (or other very dark colors) not to look dirty very quickly. The sparkling silver is also close to the color of my dirt road dust - so it looks acceptable for several trips down my road.
I went with black, no specific reason one way or the other, except perhaps that my wife had seen a SS/B while I was still leaning towards one of the blue color choices but she really liked the SS/B combination so that's what I went with.
In regards to black or white showing dirt, I'm fairly OCD about keeping her clean so that isn't an issue for me. She gets QD'd every day, sometimes multiple times per day and washed a minimum of once a week.
My wife's R53 is solid Jet Black as well, so with my choosing black for the roof, and mirrors (can't forget the stripes) it does match hers a bit better than if I'd chosen white. I guess I had some reasons after all!!

I was going to get SS/W, but didn't like it as much in person. With the sunroof, getting the white top is not that much advantage (unless you cover it). I'm actually considering having my roof and mirrors (and maybe grille) a custom color. Even with the sunroof it shouldn't be that hard to accomplish.
Since the wheel wells and sills(?) are black; as well as the roof pillars, after seeing the Astro Black in person, I went with AB/AB. It doesn't have quite the Mini look, but it looks rather elegant with a touch of serious to it.
I would have prefered a straight black (sometimes it looks like the car is dusty), and having to pay $450 extra for black annoys me. But I would be more than willing to pay an extra grand for a color that I REALLY liked.

I had a black and yellow Cooper for five years. When I compared the new black roof and white roof Sparkling Silver R56 Cooper Ss side to side, the white one looked really sharp, it was also about $1500 less, so I bought it! The white roof has been fairly easy to keep clean and really does look great.
I prefer the black roof and black stripes. Love the look! But have not seen the white in person.

I considered going with the black roof primarily because I liked the contrast and it seemed to make the car look a bit more aggressive. I opted against it because of how easily it would show dirt and how I would always be noticing it because the roof would be just below eye level everytime I went to get in. I was also concerned about the fact that no matter how dilligent I was in protecting the paint I was afraid the black would someday begin to fade and then I would be faced with looking down at a faded, dirty roof. I decided against the white being that I believe it is a non-metallic paint and would therefore not hold up as well as the rest of the paint job. In the end I just went solid SS.
SS+Black!
I really liked the way the black roof contrasted the SS, and picked up the black grill and trim items (including mirror caps).
My interior is Tuscan, so at least lighter color for the perception of less heat. I have the sunroof, so it is going to do most of the heatiing anyways. I really doubt white or black (with sunroof) could make a measureable interior temp difference! (greenhouse effect vs. reflected heat (white) or absorbed (black))... I love the SS! schnazzy (thinks me), and it changes color... Kinda gold, sometimes actually looks silver, tan and sometimes greenish- depends on the light! Here's a few of my SS/B:

The Color Change of MIB's Astro black was something I loved. But Astro Black was a pain to keep clean. Sparkling Silver looks easier to keep clean
My wife chose a Sparkiling Silver/Black MCa from the dealer's inventory. The black roof absorbs a LOT of heat. It has been much more bearable now the sunroof is tinted. I wanted a Pepper White car, but it's not my daily driver. I have to admit that the SS/B has really grown on me.
I liked the SS/B combination but, living in FL, I really wanted a white roof to keep the car cooler. I thought the SS/W didn't have enough contrast so went with DS/W. Then added grey Enkei RPM2 wheels to produce a killer look - these wheels go great with the DS color.
I knew I wanted Sparkling Silver, but I wasn't sure what color I wanted the roof. Then I saw a picture of a all S/S S-car in here. The choice was easy.
I like the body-color top, it highlights the Redwood lounge interior without making the car look too 'busy'.
I think the two colors together make the car drip with class.
Having said that, they all look good...

To me black looks dark/classy/sharp and white looks light/fun/cheery. I've seem both and they each look really great. A very tough call...even moreso because SS/SS also looks superb. If it were me I'd go white because I like the fun, cheery aspect of MINIs... so much that I got OB, too.
I personally prefer the SS/ B. I think it looks really sharp. When I was shopping I saw a SS/ B w/ redwood leather... friggan' beautiful. But, my gf didn't go for it, and it had a lot of goodies I couldn't afford... and besides: I set out to get a Chili Red!
