programming inside door handle behav.?

HI

Can you program how unlocking works when you pull the door handle? I don't like the double-pull to unlock, then open, I'd rather have one pull to unlock and open. I can't seem to figure this out from reading the manual, and I also clearly do not have strong enough google-foo to search for a previous thread on this (did find a few on failing door lock parts, though

Thanks for any advice,

I THINK I read in the owner's manual PDF that your dealership can reprogram the handle function if you don't like it. Give them a call! Good luck!

Incorrect, dealer could have programmed how you wanted it at delivery time..probably still could. But this is a BMW default. :impatient

my MA did it..Did not get set thru service dept. Sorry--can't remember how he did it. Did you try the owner's manual for the programmable turn signal stalk settings?

My understanding is that the only way to do it is to program the doors NOT to lock when you start the car or drive away. This means that you doors do not automatically locked, and remain unlocked, so you only have to pull the handle once.

You can program it yourself via the signal stalk set up.

If you find anything else from your dealer, please let us know..

CORRECT...you can not have lock on drive away and not be stuck with the dbl pull to open. That is how mine is programmed. I don't like the lock on drive away and find the BMW dbl pull to open very annoying.

I asked the MA and he said there is no way to program it any other way.

So you either drive with doors unlocked all the time or you do the double pull? I guess I'm stuck, then, since I do want the doors locked - last night some drunk chick wandering around after a street fest thought we were a taxi.

hahaha---I live in Chgo suburbs and completely understand.

Funny--mine is red/white and that is another Chgo Cab combo but it has never happened to me. I guess I don't spend enough time downtown.

I have the NAVI, so it is easy to see what you program or unprogram, believe me, your problem can be corrrected by understanding the function of the steering stalk button. do a little homework, you will figure it out.

you can do the unlock on drive away setup and just lock them manually using the toggle switch on the console. However, it does not change the dbl. pull. Once they are locked you need to pull twice to unlock unless you toggle them open first.

I would say I hope it was not one of my children BUT I have 2 sons. WHEW...

It was at the dealer for a software update and I asked if they could reprogram this. They said that some of the manuals are wrong, that the dealer CAN reprogram it, but only on the S model - and then, not on all S models. We don't have an S.

All I know is that mine are set to not lock, so I haven't experienced this yet. But I am one of those that isn't in to locking the door when I drive away. It's a weird program setup though. I thought the idea was that you couldn't open the door while in motion, but when stopped and in Park, or nuetral you can then open with a single pull.

What !!?? Seriously, that would be awesome
there have been numerous posts here stating that it cannot be done, the Mini could not be programmed to automatically unlock its doors.

there is a thread floating arround here, I think it is "things you did not know about your R56 "...

please keep us posted, I'll be scheduling a premature visit to the dealer soon; if this in fact is now correct....

What I wanted was that they can be programmed to unlock and open on one pull instead of pull to unlock, pull to open. You know, like normal cars The service guy said it CAN be done, but only on the S, and then, only on SOME of the S. (Ses? S's? Ss?)

The service guy is wrong. The double pull is a mechanical mechanism, not electronic. You can have the car set-up to auto unlock when you turn off the car though.

Scott,

I haven't seen any reports that says the auto unlock is possible in an R56. And yet a lot of people have been screaming for it. Please share your source.

Oops !! Sorry

My fault.....I assumed that it was still available on the 07's. I can't imagine why BMW stopped making it an option.

Guess the best bet is to turn off auto-locking. Bummer.

They swapped it for the secret compartment we received.
