SIRIUS Activation w/ Lifetime Subscription Problems

Anyone have problems activating their Sirius satellite radio with lifetime subscription? I spent nearly an hour on the phone activating the satellite radio in my new MINI yesterday. The tech on the phone said all BMWs (he kept calling my MINI a BMW - probably based on the VIN) only have a 1 year free subscription.

I told him the lifetime subscription was new for MINI, and has only been available a short time. Finally, he activated my radio with a 1 year subscription and told me he would escalate my case to a manager.

I am still waiting for a lifetime subscription. You would think these companies would talk to one another when starting a new program!

Your MA should have activated it when you took delivery.

Did you ever get this issue with the lifetime subscription resolved. I just got my Mini and had exactly the same problem when I called Sirius. I talked to my dealer and they did not know because I am one of the first to get this option. The Sirius people want me to fax them something to show the lifetime subscription but I don't have anything that says that. The dealer is looking into it.

I think they say it on the Miniusa website where it talks about the radio options. But that probably wouldn't pass for official documentation.

My MA called me yesterday to say that she is working on it. I gave her my ESN and was told I should have my lifetime subscription soon.

When I took delivery of my car last week, my MA told me that the subscription with Sirius is initially a 1 year subscription, at the end of which MINI renews it with the lifetime subscription. He told me not to panic if I ever talked to the Sirius folks and they said I only have a 1 year subscription. I would expect your situation to be the same, although my MA did the activation for me when I picked up the car so I never had to talk to the Sirius folks.

I logged in to the Sirius site the other day and they think I'm on a 3 month free trial with a 9 month subscription after that, but based on what my MA told me, I'm not worried.

Did you ever get resolution on this? I have the same "Prepaid Service - 9 Months Service w/3 Free Months" plan showing when I log on to the Sirius site. Little nervous as this does not auto-renew, and I don't trust MINI to somehow know to update this themselves.

When I activated mine, Sirius initially said one year. I told them that it came with a lifetime subscription and after about 5 minutes of him poking around through the system they activated it with a lifetime subscription even though according to my VIN and ESN number it was 1 year. I will admit I was rather firm with them that all Minis come with a lifetime subscription.

It's really sad that the Sirius is not activated when you take delivery of your new car. This should be done at the PDI (pre-delivery inspection).

Same problem here. The MA activated the account when I took delivery, and it initially showed a 1 year only subscription. He said that BMW had to re-enter information to clear up this type situation. It was something that happens "every so often." Although I was assured about 10 days ago that it would be taken care of, it still does not show a life time subscription.

That's what I was thinking as well but they do need additional information to set it up that your MA may not have. You need to pick an user name and password which you may not like what your MA picks out for you. After going through the activation I can see why they don't activate it for you before taking delivery. They also ask you a couple (well, at least one) of programming choices that I do not know if they can be changed at a later time.
