That's about the funniest thing I've read in here in a while..
Once?.. ok, I can live with that.. but twice!?... I laughed out loud..
At least now when it happens to me (it always happens to me), I can laugh at myself for not being smart enough to step back away from the pipes..

yah....I'm gonna sue them once i finish up my case against stove makers. I just keep putting my hand on the hot stove....but they made it so big and put it right in the middle of my kitchen for crying out loud! How dare they!
Mine is an 02 and i have had two people get small burns on my MC. It's not exclusive to r56's and it's not exclusive to MCS's. Just don't think anyone felt like posting about it since exhausts should be hot.
I haven't heard or read a single complaint of the R53 design, which is, amazingly, very similar to the R56. The R53 owners have been doing just fine for the last 5+ years.

I was loading my infant son over the back seat into his rear-facing carseat and my 4 y.o. daughter wanted to "help". Well, she got a near-perfect semicircle burn on her shin from the dang exhaust.
Yeah, I really felt like "Dad of the Year".
Reading all these posts does make me wonder how the fellow who designed that feature feels. I mean, maybe he feels badly. Or, maybe he thinks we're all just a bunch of rejects. At any rate, he owes my kid an icecream cone.

Seems with this many reports they should try to do something to minimize the burns. I don't use the boot much and haven't been burned.
Exhaust pipe burns happen to virtually every Cobra owner and are very painful. It's just too close to your shins for common sense to kick in. You forget about them, at least until you're burned once. I have to warn anyone close to the car when it's hot.

Never been burnt 4+ years by my r53 with either the stock or B&B exhaust.
There are only 3 things you need to remember
MC: exhaust is hot, it's on the right, don't stand to close.
MCS: exhaust is hot, it's in the center, don't stand to close.
maybe instead of engraving MINI, JCW, Borla, Miltek etc. manufacturers should engrave "Caution Hot"...duh
This one will burn ya.

With this attitude..
But really, it's a bad design. I have a stock tipped 02 and have been burned twice, had a couple of pairs of pants ruined, and have almost had my 2.5 year old seriously scorched by it. Sure, you can expect an adult to remember, but the kids love to climb, and it's a perfect step up for little people. While it's obvious that an exhaust should be hot, there's some validity to the complaint that it's placed right where you stand when you load/unload the car. After all, they could have done dual exits at the sides of the rear, eliminated some pretty severe bends, and gotten rid of the problem.

I have to say it's a pretty stupid oversight... A minivan I rented had this retarded "feature". I mean people know exhaust pipes are hot, but that doesn't mean they should be somewhere your likely to put you leg. At least put some sort of safety space between my leg and the pipe, so when I lean into the back of the car, which is what I'm supposed to do back there, I don't get injured. There is no excuse... just plain stupid!
