All the reports of butter smooth shifting make me think that there is in fact something wrong with mine. The smoothest shifts are from 3rd to 4th. When I've tried the light touch going from 1st to 2nd or 4th to 5th, it really just won't go into gear unless I give it a harder nudge.

And I don't think it's the 6 speed issue either. I grew up driving a Honda Accord that had the 5th gear in the same place as the mini, so it seems like a natural place for 5th and 6th to be.

I'm going to give it a few more weeks then take it back to the dealer if it still happens.

Kim,
As I mentioned, I find it the smoothest I've ever driven, that includes a 911 whcich by the way, I found difficult (but I would put up with it if I had the $).

But for you reference, 1st thru 4th are VERY easy and smooth, and natural, just let the stick go where it wants, just light pressure to pull it down (1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th) or push it up (2nd to 3rd). 5th gear on the other hand does take a little side pressure as well to get it over to the right a bit, and that seems to be by design to separate 4th and 6th a bit. Then 5th to 6th is again, just a straight drop back and smooth as can be.

If you don't see it the way I just described, take it to a deaer and have someone jump in and take a qucik ride. the ydrive em all day long and can probably tel in a second if it's off.....

good luck.

I find my clutch to be abrupt; it engages fairly early in its travel.
I'm often having difficulty matching engine speed to gear selection when I'm motoring about town --- slowly, that is.
The turbo produces so much torque early in the revs that it's a delicate act to time the shifts and still go slow.

This car doesn't like to go 25-35 mph...

I'm hoping that it will soften up after they find the 3-2 squeal solution.

I still dont know what this 3-2 squeal is. I was driving it last night going from 2-3 3-2 trying to get it to make some noise and I couldnt hear anything abnormal.
