What else is "free" in Maintenance Schedule?

Just wondering other than the free oil change; I am wondering if topping of fluid (brake, coolant, transmission) ; aircon filter ; wiper blades, tire rotation
and other needed check-up also comes free under warranty??

Please, IMHO MINI has the worst servicing of any auto I have ever owned. At my 10K servicing they changed the oil & gave me free wiper blades. To my knowledge they have never checked a fluid level or done any kind of safety inspection. They did offer to rotate my tires once for over $100 . I pointed out to my SA that my coolant level was a bit low & he told me to add straight water to it when I got home

Oh yeah they will wash your MINI for free as long as you don't mind swirls in you finish

Just like BMW...pretty much everything except tires, including light bulbs, xenons, etc.

The OP asked what was done during scheduled routine maintenance not what was covered under warranty

Actually, the first sentence in the original post was "What else is "free" in Maintenance Schedule?"

As I said, everything except tires.

Actually like I said hardly anything else is free in the "maintenance schedule" over & above an oil change. Sorry to disagree but everything except tires is most certainly not covered. Good luck to ya if you think it is. If you are getting every part you could possibly need except for tires furnished free under your maintenance schedule I know a few thousand NAMers that would like to know your dealer so we can make a road trip.

well, i'm pretty hard on my car lets see if i can remember.

3 sets of front pads and rotors
2 sets of rear pads and roters
brake master cylinder
drivers seat
entire engine wire harness
windshield (not by dealer)
engine
transmission
clutch
power steering motor
uprights on the center console
painted door inserts
a few overflow tanks
a few S/C belts

(edit)
one set of wipers
aircon filter with some mystery spray to make it stop stinking
thrust bushings on the lower control arms.

there might be a few more things. I never kept track of it. the tranny and clutch happened at the same visit. Also the Engine and seat were replaced at the same time.

Drive it like you stole it.... It's under warranty!

Come on out! It may cost you a bit in gas, but we'll put you up in a room by the ocean.
My dealer did oil, cabin filter, brake fluid at 2yrs, wipers. Even replenished my MINI Smints! That's all that was needed. So much for southern hospitality.

Admittedly, the maintenance schedule doesn't call for much more than the oil and cabin filters, and wipers. But my dealer would have replaced the brakes (if I ever used them - still had 6mm at 34K miles...) No tire rotation, though.
Tranny has 'lifetime fluid', but checking the level is not a normal maintenance item, at least not on the 6speed.

The scheduled maintenance program is the same as BMW's maintenance program. Any wear item (except tires) that is not covered by the 50k mile, 48 month new car warranty is covered by the maintenance program. Everything. Brake pads, light bulbs, clutch, rotors, wiper blades, remote (convenience pkg.) batteries, filters.

Most dealers are not proactive about this...you simply have to ask for wiper blades, for example, to be replaced. Windshield washer fluid is about the only thing I've ever found that is not covered.

i just dropped my mini off because there is a pull to the left and the left tire is "shimming"... not only did i have to wait over 20 days to bring this in, i was just told that it isn't covered under warranty and will cost me at least $125 to get it on the alignment machine.

not only that, i requested a loaner vehicle and when i got there they didn't have one. the guy "road tested" my car and said he was going 70 and there was no pull. i pretty much had to argue with him to let him know that there is definitely something wrong with it and have him agree to look at it today.

they shuttled me to work and will get me this afternoon but without a loaner i have to miss a meeting this afternoon...

needless to say i am so not impressed with my local mini dealership at this point.

and i have about 1700 more to go before i get my first scheduled service... so i get to experience all this fabulousness again.

I don't know if bamatt had a bad experience but as well as oil services I have had wiper blades and front break pads replaced under the service warranty. Nothing else wore out in the first 3 years. There was no pushback from the dealer either.

How many miles are on your car? If it's less than a year old and has less than 12,000 miles on it, the front end alignment is covered under warranty. If not, then yes, you'll have to foot the bill. I've done this on every new car/truck that I've owned. I figure if it's free, why not get them to do it. I had them do my WRX even after I had aftermarket wheels and tires on it. I just wanted to make sure the alignment was OK.

When the mechanic "road tested" your car, why didn't you go with him. I would have. It might have been the road too. Most roads slant to the left or right depending on which lane you are in. If the left tire is shimmed, tell them to replace it. It could be a bad shock/strut/spring on the left side also. It could just be a bad tire. Those are must my suggestions.

Good luck.

Why do you say "less than 1 year, or 12,000 miles"...? the warranty is 3 YEARS, 36,000 miles.

If I had a problem (knock knock knock), believe me when I tell ya, the dealer WILL fix it, free. OR, they wont be around as a dealer afterward to tell the story....

It looks like some folks here got less from MINI than they're supposed to get.

A must read is the Service & Warranty Information manual that came with your car. We're entitled to quite a lot, more than I had thought.

Which dealer you go to?? I'm getting mine at MINI of Mountain View and heard from a friend with a MCS Cabrio that the service there has been great. I don't have mine yet so I can't speak to the topic personally.

My car has just under 10K on it. The dealership told me that alignment is only covered under warranty for up to 1500 miles.

They just called and said that it was "slightly" off on the right toe (I have no idea what that means), and they rebalanced my tires for me for free (but I still pay the alignment... geez thanks)...

They also said that they road tested it and it seemed perfect... I guess I shall see.

For all the talk they do when the SELL you the mini about the warranty and service plans, I am still far less than satisfied.

I was told when I purchased my MINI that the service warranty covers all service, "including wipers, brakes, oil changes and any other service that is needed". Also, if I need wiper blades in between servicing I can replace them myself, bring in the old ones when I have service and they will give me a new set.. I guess to keep in the car so I don't have to buy any the next.

I'll be checking my warranty later today to be sure.. as much as I pd for the car, I'll take everything I can get for free! I was also told that a brake job would cost about $1k, so I upgraded my service warranty to 100,00 miles, can anyone verify that?

Of all the new Saabs, Audis, Prius, and the like that I've purchased over the years, the Mini Service Manual is the first I've seen that covers alignment at all. Heck, you can misalign simply by hitting the curb in front of a diagonal parking spot too hard with one wheel. Usually misalignment is driver caused thus car sellers don't like to cover it under warranty.

Your service department was mistaken though, the Service & Warranty manual says on page 31 under Other Items says, "Wheel alignment, balancing, and wiper blade inserts are covered up to 2000 miles".

By the way, they rebalanced your wheels for free. You got a good deal, especially after already having put 10,000 miles on your car. Looks to me like you have a good dealership.

My dealer certainly does more than just the oil change at the first service interval. Off the top of my head I remember new wiper blades and new microfilter. The second service interval is more involved and more fluids are replaced.

I have never had any car dealer offer free alignments after a very limited initial time period and low mileage. As noted above, it's unreasonable to expect free alignment after the first few days as alignment can be affected by pot hole misadventures and curb hitting (which many folks are guilty of).

hm... I guess it's different everywhere. Mine has pretty much done everything I asked for including an alignment at over 15,000 miles. The only thing I don't get is why they don't do all the services they should be doing; such as changing the brake fluid when the recommendation in the manual is 2 years.

Also does anybody know if you can get things replaced like brake pads w/o having a scheduled maintenance due? I won't reach the miles needed to get my last service, but can I bring the car in after burning out my brakes and get them replaced? Before the 3 year mark of course.

What's not to get? If they change it, is costs them $ for the fluid, and $ for the labor. So if they can get away with not doing it, they will and save some $.

Yes, if your "check brake pads" light is on, bring it in for new ones.

and that's a good deal? i guess. it "seems" like it might be fixed, but now somehow my steering wheel is a couple degrees off to the right.

Take it back and have them straighten it out. That's just a poor job of aligning. A good alignment guy will equalize the adjustment on both fronts so the steering wheel is straight. A bad one will just adjust one so that your wheel is crooked.

By the way, it does also confirm that adjustment was needed.
