whatever i still wouldn't pay it. i would have paid it directly to the county if i was going to be penalized. furthermore its not your responsibility that they messed up on an itemized bill with the tax amount on it. they could have taken it off the price of the car to compensate...it is after all 250 in a dealership that i am sure makes alot more. that must be chump change.
i would have been more difficult about paying. why are men always so easy to give in....geeez.

If men didn't give in so easily, who would women have to lead around?

Oh, certainly. To that end--it seems odd that they would quote a price inclusive of tax, especially since the applicable tax relates to one's residency and not where one bought the car.

Did you read the contract and final sales agreement before you signed? If you had you would have easily noticed that the dealer had made a mistake. It is unbelievable how many people do not read things that they sign.

I recently bought a vehicle in IL (I live in WI) and I paid a "city tax" too. It was clearly marked on the sales agreement/contract.

Lesson learned: read before signing.

Pay the TAX---You owe it," PAY IT"

It's not like the dealer is cheating you and keeping $$$. It is the """"TAX""" I feel if you owe it you should pay it. If they overcharged you on the tax they would have refunded you the $$$$

I'm not the "great dealer lover" or work for a dealer but I do believe in __IF YOU OWE IT__PAY IT.

Your state laws are obviously different than in Texas. Here, the state sales tax rate is 6.25% and that is what is charged at any dealer anywhere in the state on a car sale. Some cities such as Houston have an extra 2% for city/metro taxes, etc. but they are not allowed to collect on vehicle sales. Glad you resolved things to your satisfaction, I'm in the camp that when it comes to taxes, the buyer is ultimately responsible.

I'm sensing some, um...frustration here. You should take your MINI out motoring! Preferably on a twisty road, if at all possible. I guarantee you'll feel better right away, and you won't care about someone asking about taxes...

Two things are certain in life, death and taxes... The dealer did him a favor by informing him of their mistake, wanted to collect the correct amount thereby having the buyer avoid future head aches with the city, county, or feds... Just have them show you were they made the mistake and if accurate, pay the damn taxes...
