Frivolous Question

Even though I test drove the Mini on three occasions, I never hit the horn. Is it a beep or a honk? Thanks.

somewhere between the two,

louder (angrier?) than a beep.
higher than a honk.

Good question. I've had mine 3 weeks and don't know what it sounds like.

Sounds bigger than it should, which is good. Anyway, lay on it as you go by. Give them the ol' doppler effect!
Smile for miles!

Oh yea, I'm less scared of her driving skills then her t'ing someone off, and then they come after me, being the guy that they can hit. I love her spunk, just not in those situations!

Soooo,...when I pick up my baby, it would not be appropo to drive home with the horn blaring, wildy yelling WOOOHOOOO!!!! out the window?

I just want to make sure everyone knows I got my car. I know they are all wanting to know that.

Not unless you write "Class of 1812" or whenever it was, on the rear window.

Yup I agree with dchautin; the MINI's always had a very American sounding horn, just like most dometic brands. It's certainly very ballzy compared to the wimpy "meep meep" of my Miata!

Thanks for the responses. I like the terms bonk and ballzy, so I think I'll stay with those audio images until I hear it for myself.

I used the horn for the first time on the highway the other night. Thankfully it was quite a meatly honk (not a HUGE SUV honk, but way better than my old Hyundai Elantra's beep...)

I think it's a German horn, very similar to the old BMWs and MBs of the late 1970 and mid 1980s. Has a very pronounced sound with out being too garish. Perfect for a car that looks as wide as it is long .

In my opinion this is an important question. Cars need horns that command attention and respect. The horn on my new MCS does that very well.

I've mentioned before that I last owned a Prius. I made it a point to never use its horn unless I absolutely had to. The word, "wimp" came to every time I had to listen to that thing.

I have two friends that have train horns on their pick up trucks. I am sure they require an air compressor and tank.
People will MOVE for you! I dont condone it, but I do see it as a highly motivating piece of equipment.

The Mini definitely has a big car horn. First time I used it I thought, damn, the horn's not working, and why's that truck honking at me..

. I was beginning to worry that maybe people were just too obsessed with the MINI.

To each his own. But I would still place a bonk before a beep.

While driving to work yesterday I had the opportunity to test the horn, as some jack*** in a gigantic boat of a car wanted to change into my lane without signalling and without looking. As I was forced into the left lane I gave the horn a good push. It's impressive! It certainly snapped that guy out of his daydreaming and back onto the road.
