Avoid the union jack boot box

I ordered the union jack boot box from a Mini dealer. I thought that it would be a great thing because it would give a good place to store my usual collection of tools and cables and that it would make it easy to load items when the seats are down.

The box was VERY disappointing. The plastic was very thin. The lid fell into the box and the partitions inside the box fell over. For $189 ($236 MSRP), it is a terrible product.

I have some boxes on order that I'm hoping will do the trick for a lot less money. If they work out, I'll send an update.

Yeah, I saw one at the MINI release party and had the same thoughts.

You can get a Rubbermaid box that will do the same thing for about $30.

Union Jack? I see a "Boot Box" in the Configurator for $80. It isn't that, is it?

Specifics? I've been looking last few days and can't quite find one the right size...

I got the boot box. It was a bit pricey, but figured as long as I was buying all the options I wanted, what the hell. Really like it. The dividers are done with Velcro and can be moved around to suit your load. Ideally, it keeps grocery bags from sliding around back there and spilling. It is a nice feature.

The "Union Jack Boot Box" is different fromt the $80 one. This one comes with a cover and is made of hard plastic. I'm glad to hear that the $80 one worked out for you.

Any chance of posting pictures (or pointing out where I can see some online)? $80 is more than I wanted to spend but given the difficulty I am having finding what I want...

Thanks!

What I would do is take it back. Why not? You were not satisfied with the product when you tried to use it. You paid for it expecting XX, and you didn't get what you thought you paid for. You should get a refund. You'd get a refund at Costco, no questions asked, no receipt required. If you don't like it you get your money back. Mini dealers should be even more lax with people who paid 30 grand for a car.

Hi, Big Newt. I requested an RMA for the return, but haven't heard anything back yet. Hopefully, they'll do the right thing.

You can go to the configurator at Miniusa.com. It is under accessories, interior. There is a picture.

My MINI's not here yet, but I ordered something from QVC that should work for me. It's a set of 2 trunk organizers. Both have multiple sections and can expand & collapse, and one has a cooler section. It's soft-side, so unless it's full and OK to put stuff on, it won't provide the solid flat surface the boot box has. But the set of 2 was only about $25 plus tax & shipping....worth that to try it.

It may not be the same size, but the plastic boot mat I used in my R53 fits perfectly into my R56.
