I have a 2008 mini clubman JCW and I'm looking for assistance diagnosing a potential issue.

When I start up my car, after letting it idle in park for about a minute it starts to make what almost sounds like a knocking sound coming from the engine bay. When I go to put it in drive, it makes this really rough sound while the RPM's are climbing going into higher gears. It seems to be at its worst when in 1st-3rd gear and then starts to get better once I have been driving for a bit and everything is sort of warmed up.

Is this just an issue of the car burning oil? Or where else should I be looking to help diagnose this problem? Any assistance y'all can provide would be much appreciated
