Howdy all!

I just got me a 08' Clubman S (R55). and I love it. I've been going through it to make sure it is in good running condition. When I got the car, it had the engine symbol cycling on, an airbag icon. I reset the all of the warning lights, but the engine symbol is still on (The engine symbol with half of it blacked out).
I put an OBD II reader on it, and it is not throwing any codes, which I was surprised about.
So....
is there another way to reset the engine light?( I didi the push the reset on the tach ). and is it possible that it is not sending codes to the OBD II?

If you are using a generic code reader it's most likely not able to read the Mini specific canbus codes. There are embedded codes that are not able to be seen by a typical OBD 2 code reader.

 

That makes sense. I was very surprised that no codes showed on mine. Actually I was using a BT OBD2 donlge from amazon, and Dash Command on my Iphone. It has always worked well on my other vehicles.
Will a reader from Autozone or O'reillys work? or di I have to go to a mini shop?

I use this one for now and it reads all the codes on my 2011 Mini Cooper S. I already had this one when I bought the car. There are better ones out there that allow coding for the car so you can turn on different options. Things like how many time the blinker flashes when you tap the turn signal stalk or all windows roll up or down at same time. I plan to get one of those later on after more research.
