R55 Vin Decoding / what model and options etc.
Hey there.... welcome to the forum.
Second question first, the battery registration is really quick and easy if you have the right equipment. I use a Schwaben scan tool and it did mine no issues. Some folks use Carly and a few other ways, but I’m not entirely sure which ones.
There is a site that will give you all of that info for free. Unfortunately I don’t recall what it is at the moment. But somebody will chime in with it soon, I’m sure

schwaben will read it but has to have a good battery. If you battery is dead then last 7 digits into realoem.com (online ETK only) or mdecoder.com will tell you have your car is.

There’s the VIN decoder ^
if the battery is dead, you can remove it or disconnect it to charge it without any issues. But if you replace it with a different one, it will need to be registered to the ECU.
