Welcome,

If you need anything else let me know or if you have trouble with the install .

I really appreciate all the vendors on this forum, they make daunting tasks like this less stressful. I'll probably order the super TOL kit from Detroit tuning. Any good catted DP's I should look at? I have the fJCW exhaust and love the noise level, not too loud but not too quiet, and I don't want to introduce any drone.
not sure if you've already jumped into getting your oil filter housing off, but I found that moving the coolant reservoir and then bending this large black hose from the turbo back, let me have just enough room to remove those two stubborn bolts from the aux water pump, allowing me to easily drop the OFH down and out. Finally! Hope it helps. Good luck

Those gaskets were pretty decroded!

I loosened and bent back the large rubber hose going into the turbo giving me enough room to get down and see the two aux water pump bolts which I then removed.

Thank you for the order, if you ordered Saturday it just went out on today's truck and should be to you within the week.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you whether it be with parts or advise on the install of components.
Hey DT, I didn't see the oil cooler seal set for the R55 on your site? I've got a shopping cart ready to go but wanted to add those on since I've got it all torn apart right now. Thanks!

Thanks all, I'll be doing this in a couple weeks when I have more time. In the meantime I'm buying the DT Super TOL kit, 2 jugs of coolant, and probably an aftermarket catted DP. And potentially doing a transmission fluid flush since I'll be doing all these other things anyways.

Greg,

Glad you got everything you needed for the job , make sure that everything is clean and torqued properly upon install, we've had a couple cars come back to us that someone else did the install of the Super Kit and didn't properly tighten the oil line compression fittings, or omitted oil filter housing bolts because they couldn't get their hands up in there again.

Just off the top of your head, do you know the torque specs for the oil filter housing bolts? as well as the bolts going into the OFH from the oil cooler? Also, what style torque wrench would you be using? Thanks much

Hey nkfry, I ordered the super TOL kit yesterday around 12pm and it got shipped one or two hours later. Now I see it'll get here tomorrow! Talk about fast service. I also bought that iPE catted downpipe for sale here so I can install it at the same time. While I am working on the car I'll also do a MTF flush since it's never been done, and then I have to do a coolant flush and oil change once the car's back together. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

Spec is 10 nm, or about 2.25 ft/lbs. I've always torqued them to at least double that as they are the same thread pitch as the valve cover bolts which are torqued to 7.3 ft lbs.

I use a Snap-on 3/8 Techwrench, you could use a 1/4" if you wanted to, but my 3/8 has more scratches on it and I want to keep my 1/4 pretty.

Thank you, we stay pretty active during the day keeping things on track and making sure our customers are getting the best service possible.

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with, we'd be glad to assist with any questions during the install.

This is very off-topic, but I bought an IC and DP to install at the same time as the turbo oil line kit, and I noticed that during transit one of the tubes on the IC got a little bent.

Will this end up being an issue with the performance of the car at all? Since the hose will fully enclose this tube end, I don't anticipate any issues but I thought I'd get some opinions too.

If the hose goes over that bent part enough to make a good seal with the clamp I don't foresee an issue. However, wherever you bought it from (unless it was a private seller) should have shipping insurance on the product and be able to send you a new one due to poor packaging.

It was a private seller. He showed me a pic of what it looked like when he took off the IC for shipping, so the damage must have occurred through shipment. When I put it on in a couple week's i'll evaluate if it looks like a solid fit. Otherwise I may have to try and hit that flat spot to get it round again...

Try to bend it out a bit, be careful if its ebay one ( so it will not crack, if you slide the hose enough and clamp it , it should hold.

Bring that intercooler to a radiator shop, they have the tools and experience to fix it.

Good ideas all around. Thanks, I'll probably try calling a radiator shop to see if they can fix it.

Alright, so just an update. I was out of the country for the last few weeks, but right before I left I finished changing the OFH gasket, oil filter, oil, the turbo oil feed line via the super kit from detroittuned, as well as the coolant thermostat housing. Before I finished I noticed a hairline crack in the coolant expansion tank. So I ordered one, and put it in. I got back into town today, swung by the BMW dealership, picked up coolant, and headed home to fill her up and get back on the road! I tried pouring some distilled water into the system first (the guy at BMW said the coolant is very concentrated and to add some water when topping it off). Unfortunately, all I heard was water splashing down below the car on the opposite (passenger) side of the engine! Now Im wondering if I need to change my water pump? Or what might be dumping the coolant out the passenger side of the engine? Im 99.99% sure all coolant lines were reconnected properly, but I'll probably start by checking all this tonight/tomorrow.. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks all!

Coolant leaking down the right side of the engine could be the water pump. Since you heard it happen right away, have someone add in water while looking under the vehicle to see if you can pinpoint where it's coming from.

I followed your instructions and it looks like the coolant line that sits right below the air intake manifold is busted and any fluid comes rushing right out of it? The connection towards the coolant thermostat with the wire clip is correctly fitted, but the other end of that hose seems to be out of place. I can try to take pictures but it seems like a PITA to get to.. I'll update tomorrow or the next day.

Sometimes the water pipe on the other side can crack . Should seat all the way in. You can see it seated in the back of the waterpump housing. bet when you move the thermostat housing you lifted the tub and it cracked at that end.

Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. ill probably get that ordered while I search for a write up for changing it. Looked like I should take the manifold off and then I would have access to it from there. I just want this stupid project done with so I can enjoy the car!! Thanks ECS

Another plastic piece on the MINI that can tend to crack and cause issues unfortunately. The plastic gets brittle over the years. Some info in this thread HERE and linked to my post where you can see the clip that connects to the thermostat side. The first page has a lot of great info as well. It's definitely a hard area to work in and can be a pain, but just take your time. It's connected on the thermostat end and just sits snug against the water pump, not connected to anything, but it can stick to it so may take a little tug. The water pipe with o-ring is HERE with the clip below it.
