Cyl #1 zero Compression

All,

Well at 59,000 miles and less than 6 years I think I've had it with my Mini.

I've given it plenty of slack for its poor reliability, but now I'm tired of putting up with it. I haven't had a car this unreliable since..... well I can't remember.

And now I had to be flatbedded into the dealership. It just dropped a cyl driving down the highway.....

They started with the walnut blast for carbon deposits $800 and then they tell that it didn't fix it so they did a compression test and cyl #1 no compression. So the dealer wants another $1000 to pull the head just to look to hope to find the problem.

I don't think so.....

What car today has a catastrophic engine failure at 59,000 miles?? Mind you serviced 100% by Mini for the first 3 years and then I serviced twice as frequently since.

I was eyeing the new hardtop ... well not any more......

Later

I would be most pissed off that they didn't do a proper diagnosis and charged me $800 for Walnut blasting. The tech should be eating that one. Bummer it dropped a cyl so soon, was it stock?

Well its good to see the dealer is helping out on this. It does surprise me that they just jumped in on the carbon cleaning thing right away with out doing a compression test first. But maybe there theory was the carbon build up was holding a valve open..idk.. But ive found most dealers seem to do things backwards. Not to mention most are just parts changers and rarely are good trouble shooters! Good luck!

Update

Cyl #1 lost compression because of a burnt exhaust valve. They claim it is from the carbon build up and that cyl running lean.
Regardless Mini is helping
