Sorry to open up this thread again. I had the passenger side lock fail, i.e. the door would not close. Ordered a new part and since replacing the lock I get the door open warning every time the car moves.

Another issue, most likely the cause, is that when the car is locked if I pull on both handles, the driver's side opens, although it is blocked by the locked passenger door. Looking at the two door latches they appear to be the same, so I swapped them and the problem remains, get the door open warning and the driver's door opens when locked.

Reading through posts I noticed a lot of issues with the door handles get wet causing corrosion. To test this I disconnected both handles which resolved the issue with the driver's door opening when locked, but the door open issue remains.

Anyone got any ideas? Wiring issue?

Amazingly....... barely after couple months replacing the rear right barn door latch actuator, the lower left one quit working as well last week. Ordered the parts right away and again, thanks to the information on this thread, the pics are especially useful, I fixed it with ease.

One thing I wanted to point out is, the four pins on lower silt cover can be easily pulled out with a plier pulling on just the top of the ***. The thing works like a concrete concrete/dry wall screw stud. The pin in the middle act as a filler to prevent the outer shell from contracting on pull, thus making the whole thing stays in place. Pulling the middle pin out makes the outshell fairly easy to pull out. Was afraid to do it and took a while for me to decide what to do as I can't find any information on how to take the pin out on the web. Hope this little info may help some other nervous fix-it-Felix wannabe.

Doing both at the same time might be worth it in the end. Seen a couple fail around the same time. Thanks for the DIY info, the more pointers , the better for people down the road.

The right rear (passenger side) barn door has popped open a couple times overnight while the car was parked. It's possible, though unlikely, that the button on the remote got pushed (held down for a second or two) while in my pocket.

I've also found the car with all the windows down and the sunroof open a couple of times, though not the same times as the barn door opening. I used NCS Expert to program the windows to go up/down with the remote, so I think I am going to disable that feature...

Has anyone else experienced the passenger side barn door opening randomly, and would a new barn door lock fix the problem?

Think you are bumping the key in your pocket. Are you close to your MINI most of the day ? Sometimes a low main car battery and do funny things.

The barn door popped open most recently when the key was in my pocket for only about one hour, and I was close enough for the signal to reach the car. And I do have a micro lighter and micro flashlight in my pocket with the key. Since I cannot rule out the key getting pressed perhaps that is the most likely explanation.

I was more wondering if the design of the barn door lock would allow the door to pop open without the key being pressed, say if some component of the lock was wearing out. Or if anyone else noticed the same problem.

barn door latch issues

So my 2009 Clubman has experienced the whirring no open situation. How do I get the door cards off with the doors locked shut? I cannot find info of how to remove them.
Is it typically the US car driver's side or passenger side mechanism that fails?
I want to order the correct part
Thanks

Its on the first page: Listed with both parts and how to get the doors open. Most people do both locks at the same time.

Right rear door on my 2009 clubbie quit opening. Usual fault in that the latch mechanism failed. Anyone with a clubman will be doing themselves a favor if you modify the right interior panel as mentioned in post #18. Yes you can fish around wth a screwdriver or other object and try and trip the latch to open the door. However be prepared for some frustration in doing so as the space is very cramped and almost impossible to see. Take the panel off now and cut the notch out. In all my years working on cars I do not think I have ever seen a worse piece of engineering from the standpoint of making a repair.

Hi,

There is a youtube video showing how you could precisely move that LATCH to unlock the LEFT barn door.

Cheers,

This was a tough one. Had the passenger side barn door solenoid failed on me. I practiced on the new one on how to mechanically trigger it to open. Pulled the plastic trim and shaped a 1 foot long, 1/8 inch of all thread and ground a small flat tip on the one end. I fished the all thread in around the bolt towards the back to pry against the bolt. The actuator triggers towards the back. After I found the small grove on the actuator, I pulled on the all thread and voila. Took about an hour to figure out. Replaced the solenoid and works like new. Will be replacing the drivers side sometime soon so I don't have to hassle with forcing it open. Good luck to all.

Our 2009 Clubby S's barn doors are locked shut. No whirring noise, and it sounds like it is unlocking, but it's not popping out. Nor can I force it open.

Also, basically at the same time, the sunroof quit functioning properly. I have done the "Hold the button forward" for at least 20 seconds to reset the sensors, but that doesn't result in it working properly.

Don't know if this caused it, or it's just a wild coincidence, but we just had the AC condenser and compressor replaced. I assume they unplugged the battery for that, but not sure.

My wife took it out of town for the next 2 days, but will get my hands on it Sunday. I guess I will pry the bottom sill off and try to see what the issue is. But before doing that, do you think unplugging that battery for 30 minutes or would help?

You could try that and also make sure the door are shut. Maybe its jammed halfway open and the doors tried to open?

They are completely shut. Just stopped opening, about half way through a day that it had been working fine.

Ok, yes, you got to get to that trim and underside to get to those locks.

Finally got to this today. Tripping the lock release is a frustrating exercise, to say the least. I went ahead and pulled the lower sill off too to see what was going on with the driver's side lock. It still works, as it's not used very much.
I have ordered a new passenger door mechanism from ECS, and won't get it til the end of this week.
Screw putting it all back together with the dead door lock still in place!
I took it out, but left it plugged in and stowed in the bottom of the door, in the locked position. Then put a couple heavy duty zip ties around the handles to keep the door shut until the new part arrives.

Thanks to the contributers of this thread!

Also, unplugging the battery for ~30 minutes allowed me to reset the sunroof sensors, and the sunroof is working properly once again.

Clubman Right Barndoor latch problem

My right side latch stopped working. Reviewing posts here I ordered the part ($80) from ECSTuning. Like houlster, I found the unused manual release and scratched my head in amazement. Knowing what I was trying to find, I drilled a small hole about 5/8" above the latch and fished in a piece of coat hanger and after a minute or so, popped the latch and the door swung open. I then pulled off the interior door panel (thank you, jli0022) and (after finding the correct torx bit) I swapped out the latch, popped the panel back on et viola! It is fixed! Thank you all!

Btw/fwiw: I was surprised that I was unable to find anyone -Mini specialists, dealer, etc that had a clue regarding this issue. My estimate, after the cost of the part is that I saved between $350 and $450.

I got my starboard-side door fixed. I posted about it here last week but I can't find the posting now. After receiving the part from ECS, I determined I could drill a small (10mm) hole and trip the latch with a piece of coathanger wire.
