Auto Transmission Question

I have an '08 Clubman S with an auto trans. This car only has 32k on it. When I drive it with the sport button on the transmission shifts very hard. almost what I would call a "slam". however, when I drive it without the sport button on the shifts are very normal. smooth...no slip.

any thoughts? I have not looked into how difficult a tranny fluid change is or if it is even recommended yet. I thought I'd come here to the real experts first.

thanks

jim

Thats what the sport button does. Creates different and harder shift points.

Sport mode will cause the auto to hold a gear longer before shifting up(keeps in the power band longer). With the gear ratios that the auto has(manual seems to have this issue as well), first and second gear has long free fall before rev matching the next gear. This creates a hard shift because the auto tranny re-engages asap. I can modulate with my manual(keep clutch in just a tad longer) before re-engaging. However, the higher gears have the opposite problem where they're closer together. If I have a regular-speed shifting action, I would have to go from 4th to 6th(skipping 5th) to have a smooth shift. Therefore I have different shifting action speeds depending on what gear I'm going to.
