Tear in inside door. Any fixes?

My wife put a fold up chair into the front seat yesterday and closed the door agressively. The metal corner of the chair leg dug into the inside of the passenger door and made a 1 inch gouge in the plastic door panel. Rather unsightly.

Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas on a fix/repair? I dont want the tear to continue growing and I want the scar to go away. Replacing entire door panel is really not an option.

Thanks.

RC

Go to a good auto upholstery shop and see what they can do. They might be able to do some repair.

Pictures would be worth a 1000 words in this case and maybe help us in helping you.

And if a car upholstery place cant do anything for you the only real solution is to replace the door panel.

A new panel from the dealer would probably cost a second mortgage but a wrecked clubman would probably have that panel unless it was damaged specifically in that location. Check your local auto salvage companies and if they initially do not have what you are looking for then ask them if they have search capabilities. A lot of those places are on a linked system so they can find parts across the country. Just make sure you verify the part via a picture to make sure you are getting the right replacement piece that will match. And, plus one on the pictures being very helpful.

If it's vinyl, get a repair kit.

Another option is to put a strip of stainless steel over the area. This will hide the mar and keep it from happening again!

Please post some pictures and we'll give you some ideas.

I'm new to the MINI forums but thought we had a bonnet to boot warranty for 4yrs 50k miles.

Would think if you had a good relationship with your dealer they would replace it under warranty. I've done this on several occasions with my Mercedes and each time parts were replaced without issue. Granted my issues weren't upholstery issues but I did have 2 console covers (front & rear) and a steering wheel replaced by MB without issue.

Just my .02
