I live out in the sticks, my MINIs lights seem alright. But, when the headlight bulbs burns out, I'll get some higher wattage ones.

Went thru a bunch of lights on my old mustang and from my experience and the people from the mustang forums "white" type lights are not very useful. They are bright but not useable light so you won't get any extra distance out of them. Dunno what size the mini takes but try to find silver star ultras by Sylvania. By far the best lights I ever used and I even tried one of thoses aftermarket hid kits.

The H13 is probably the worst dual filament bulb for cars. the contacts are barely adequate for the stock wattage and will for sure overheat with higher wattage bulbs.

There is no shortage of aftermarket bulbs that claim better lighting over the standard halogen. I've yet to come across one that actually put out significantly more lumens. some cast a "whiter" light, but "whiter" doesn't equal "brighter". It just has a higher color temperature. the visibly blue light bulbs are just silly IMHO. But all of them are perfectly happy to charge you premium price - for little, none, or even negative gain in actual lighting performance.

Short of swapping over to the zenon factory headlights, your best bet is adding auxillary lights.

Does anyone have any reviews of the H13 Silver Stars in the MINI, especially with bulb life. I've use the Silver Star Ultras in other cars but I was disappointed with the bulb life. I only got about 200 hours before they burned out.

Sylvania used to make a great one, but alas. Silverstars are great, expensive, and you might better carry a spare set with you if you use your Mini. Check out the headlight aim too, they seem to be notorioisly aimed low.
Sylvanis is what I have right now, kinda yellow, like a regular light but marked better than the weak stockers. Supposed to be brightest legal, but the whiter light seems to be better to me. Be very carefull about getting hotter bulbs.

Good Luck

I have been using a set of Sylvania SilverStar Ultras and they work *great*. They throw a noticeably brighter and purer light and they throw the beam further down the road than the stock bulbs. I have had mine on the car for over two years and they are still going strong.

I tested these against the stock bulbs as well as some Philips premium bulbs (their Xtreme models) and the Sylvanias were the better bulbs without a doubt. Well worth the $37 I spent for them...
