Clubman Tuning Kit

I'm interested in the Tuning kit for my 09 Clubman S. My mini dealer has quoted me $3000. $2100 for the kit and 6 hours install. They say that "when all is said and done, we're looking at 3 grand". That's much higher than I've seen posted elsewhere on this forum. Everyone else says 3-4 hours for install at $85 - $120per hour. Any comments/suggestions?

Your dealer is "soaking" you on that deal! You can buy the JCW STage 1 kit for about $1,600 from several other MINI dealers who sell online. All it consist of is a "JCW" air box and filter (you can install that yourself in 15 minutes) and 2 new mufflers (probably $65 for that switch at an exhaust shop), a pre-programmed cookie cutter ECU tune (2-3 hours at the dealership at most...) and a few badges for your car. The dealership in my arera will install the JCW stage 1 for 2,100 plus tax....I'd stay aftermarket for sure (a BOV, cat back exhaust, and Dos intake will get you better power improvement anyway, and being all "bolt on" should not affect your warranty in anyway) Good luck.

Thanks for the info! After talking to the service manager at my dealer, they agreed that it should only be a 3 hour install. I'm gonna do it.

prob better to go JCW TK. many dealers arent as generous as they once were with a/m mods, service issues, and warranties. Mine was $2100 incl labor.

Did you get it done yet? (The JCW Stage 1 kit install...) and how is it? I'd love to see a pictorial and list of exactly what parts the dealership changes on the Stage One Kit. Good luck....

Been doing my math, and if I can get my dealer to install the kit for under 2k, it's probably a better deal than an aftermarket intake, exhaust and tune....while keeping the warranty fully intact. Thinking about doing the JCW Kit on mine after AMVIV this year....???

I sure would like to see some pictures of the kit on a Clubman S, also how is the sound? Any drone on the freeway?

I am most likely going to put on the Stage 1 JCW kit on my '09 Clubman S (AT). I'd expect a little more rumble from the exahust and I hope the steering repsonse is tighter as well as the throttle/ECu mapping. The Stage 1 is supposed to increase throttle response, tighten the steering up (like in sport mode), and increase the torque and HP. I am anxious to see if it resets the shift points to a higher RPM when in "D", though. Before I pull the trigger on this update, I'd sure like to hear reviews from anyone that has done the Stage 1 upgrade on the Clubman.

I dont have a Clubbie but I do have a coupe with the automatic and U DEF get quite the bang for the buck, since the ECU re-map also re-maps the tranny's shift points. Going thru this and other user forums, manual owners are generally unimpressed with the $$ outlay for the kit, while auto owners seem much happier. I have yet to read about an auto owner that regrets putting on the kit. I certainly dont whenever I track my car...

The Aisin auto and the turbo Prince are a great combo w/o the kit; with it, the car takes on a whole new performance-geared personality, with a nice exhaust sound to boot. Good move IMO, because U, like me, will get a good before TK and after TK butt dyno comparo

The kit will do little for your steering response beyond tightening it up a tad when in Sport mode.

Could anyone who has one of these please write a review of it, any exhaust drone, dip in mileage and how happy they are?

I got the JCW tuning kit installed on my 08 Clubman S yesterday (Northwest MINI in Tacoma, Wa. $1680 for the kit and $275 install). They also changed the oil, pollen filter and flushed the brake fluid (no charge). Everything took about 4 hours.
All I can say is wow, power and sound are both great. 4th gear passing, you'll find yourself going way, way over the speed limit real quick and it pulls much stronger in all the way to redline. Sound is a deep roar when you get on the gas, but you can barely hear the difference cruising on the freeway. Also now, you can slightly hear the turbo blow off valve between gear shifts at full throttle. I was surprised though, to see they completley removed the center resonator (it must be a Clubman only delete with the JCW kit?).
The feeling of keeping the factory warranty and the eye catching JCW emblems also helps you feel you went the correct path for more power instead of going aftermarket.
The only downside I see to the kit was the drop in MPG. It's a 450 mile drive to my dealer and I averaged 40.6mpg going over and just 35.4 mpg coming back. I'm hoping that's partly due to the ethanol fuel I filled with in Tacoma and I hope it improves after I fill with non-ethanol fuel back in Idaho.
I'll keep you updated.

I committed to the kit earlier this week. I put a deposit so the dealer can order the parts, and once they get it in i'll be taking my car in for some other issues, and have the JCW kit installed.

Big Jim Swade,
Great to here you are happy with the kit. We have a 09' Sparkling Silver Clubman S and are thinking of having the kit installed. We would be using the same dealer since we are in Spokane. Thanks for the info.

I checked my mileage this weekend, it dropped to about 36mpg (was 40mpg). The full post is in the JCW Garage.

What's the different between installing the tuning kit on an existing Clubman S and ordering the JCW version? I find that the MINI USA website makes it difficult to find basic facts. It looks great, but is difficult to navigate.

Thanks...

I'm getting a similar quote from Roadshow BMW / Mini here in Memphis.

US$2,100.00 for parts, and roughly US$475.00 for labour. All that's before tax.

How are you guys getting the the JCW kits done for so much less?

Ask your dealer if they will match the price of another dealers online price of $1680?

I'm going to try that.

I really like the Mini shop foreman here in Memphis. He's like an network engineer turned tuner turned wrench. He always takes the time to explain to me and show me what's going on with my car and doesn't talk to me like I'm dumb.

I'd hate to get it done somewhere else, but hundreds of dollars difference is too much to ignore in the name of supporting the local dealership.

Just got this price from another (somewhat) local dealership.
