Synopsis: I want to know if a manual transmission from a MINI coupe can be swapped into a Clubman, replacing an automatic transmission.

Longer story: I'm considering converting a Clubman to an electronic vehicle, and for a variety of reasons I don't want to do an automatic (the torque curves for an ICE and an electric motor are almost perfectly opposite; I'm looking at salvage Clubmans [Clubmen?] where the control module for that transmission is likely fried). It seems all the salvage Clubmen I'm finding are AT, and I'm wondering if I can swap in a readily-available MINI Coupe manual tranny.

The electronics for the manual and automatic trans cars are different so it would also take changing some of the electronics in the car as well, but then again if your are removing the gasoline engine you are going to have other problems as well so it may work.

 

I guess I need to look into the schematics for a Clubman more to understand what electronic controls there would be for the manual transmission. As you note, the engine computer would go away, and as a result I'd be disabling some dash sensors, and faking inputs to others (well, for a while, probably ignoring a bunch of warning lights, too).
