so you trashed the clubman autocrossing, fried the clutch slipping it and wore through the tires. The dealer is giving you a pass on the abuse and giving you a free clutch, and here you whine about having to buy new tires and the car is junk because next time everything is on your dime

Cry me a river

I am considering getting a 09 Clubman S within the next two weeks. I'm trading my 08 Si in due to crappy transmission. So I think twice and just get a GTI?

Go hang out on a GTI forum and see what problems they have. If you listened to what is said on any automobile forum you would never buy another car again.

Thanks for all the positive support everyone. LOL at cutting my loses. Some people just have it in their heads, I abused this clutch, and that is simply not true. This was my wife's car. I wanted to autocross it, but she wouldn’t let me. I will have to get her an account here. LOL. But I have watched how she drives, and I can find no reason to blame her.
I have enjoyed this site and will miss the camaraderie. You all are a great bunch of car enthusiast. I agree with you that when this car was running well, it was very fun to drive. Like a go cart on steroids...
I feel for people who have experienced these problems and had to pay out of pocket for a manufacturer defect. Something is not right with this. Just because mine was taken care of under warranty (lucky me), there are many on this site that were not so fortunate. I would recommend that Mini's unite and protest with signs outside of their stealership. No more Luks. Fix my Clutch.
I have cut the cord with Mini for myself; BTW this was my second Mini. I bought another car to replace it.

Who confirmed it was a manufacturers defect.

And those few people that are complaining amount to less than 0.5% of the cars sold that do not have a problem.

Again there is less than a 0.5% failure rate that is more than accepatble. but i will say many people DO ABUSE their car AND EXPECT the dealer to pay for it. Just like the guy here that states he over reved his engine and it blew up and they will not cover it under warranty. Well they should not cover it. It was admited abuse.

Now i am not saying your wife abused the clutch and Mini did cover it so they did not see any abuse. Good for you.

How do YOU know it was Borken Down. I have parked mine on the side of the highway and not in it while I went to take a pee. So by your account mine MUST have been broken down. Well it was not.

You by a Chevy, GM, Ford, Honda, BMW, Jag, VW, any make for that matter and have buyers remorse after 6 months when that starts to break down as well. Then you learn after doing this 3 or 4 times that crap breaks on a car and you get it fixed.

It does not matter what make or model it is there are cars out there that perform for 100s of thousands of miles and then theres thet one that came off the line of the same model only lasts a few thousand. Tha is jus tthe way it is.

To say that all these cars have bad clutches and we should all watch out is very irresponsible of you.

So please just go away quietly.

I've had a 2008, one of the first, it has 35,000 miles. It has run track days every month plus hard mountain driving and has had ZERO problems. This is the
third new Mini S and other than squeaky, streaky wipers no problems. All have
a lot of track time. #1 had 69,000 miles, #2 58,000 miles neither even had their
brakes replaced. Guess you got a bad one, but the dealer seems to be trying
to make ir right.

Just let runninbeer fade away and stop posting on this thread, there's nothing useful here and nothing to gain.

I agree this discussion is one of the few that give another side to the mini clubman on this form. My post of the FUD was off topic and immature. Sorry if I offended anyone. Failed attempt at humor.
As I said before this is one of the best sites for car enthusist. And I have enjoyed being apart of it.
It does seem apparent that some of you view the clubman more like an extention of themselves and not just a car. While people point out that only a few people post anything negative about the clubman, I can see why. Read back through this thread and you will see why. Also look at the history of the people posting. Some people's only topics are spent defending this car.
Lets all agree to disagree and respect one another. My opinion on
the Clubman is based on my own research and personal experience. Your opinion might be on the popularity of the car.
Have you ever watched Wild Kingdom. Where a herd of cattle is crossing a stream full of feeding aligators? The herd is losing its numbers and is oblivious to it. My point is what goes around comes around. When you see an injustice happen to someone and you do nothing, time and chance will dictate that it will happen to you also. I have a choice to fight back or do nothing. And it may be a losing battle. Mini may of taken a chop of my wallet. Hopefully someone reading this might make a better decision, like crossing the stream where the aligators are not feeding. There are many other cars out there. Pick one thats right for you. Sometimes the herd can be wrong.
