Easy to do on a Mini Cooper.

Jack up using the front jacking point. (will lift both wheels on same side)

Take off front wheel. (I wash mine inside and out)

Take off rear wheel (I wash this one too)

Put front wheel on the rear (Same side)

Put rear wheel on the front (Same side)

Do other side of car the same way.

I use Anti-sieze on the lug bolts and torque them to 103 ft.pounds

I do this every 5,000 miles and it is: " so easy a caveman can do it."

My car is a 2009 JCW with Dunlap runflats

There is a great video on the Michelin website showing identical situations of what can happen when the better tires are on the front rather than on the rear...cool video..here it is:

I'm convinced. Seems counterintuitive at first, kind of like "bacon prevents heart disease". But when you watch the video, it makes perfect sense. MINI should add a little more explanation to the owner's manual to clarify this. I'll keep my good tires in the rear from now on.

The manufacturer of your MINI recommends that you do not swap the front wheels with the rear wheels as this may impair the handling of your MINI. (from page 102 in the 2009 MINI's Owner's Manual)

Excellent advice

The Video says it all. I think most of us that ever raced front wheel drive cars always knew this but there are a lot of front wheel drive owners that need to see this. It is just the opposite of normal thinking.

I personaly always replace all four tires at the same time.

Just had the tires rotated at Sears for $15.97. The tire literature (I have OEM Continental non-runflats) recommends rotating every 6000 to 8000 miles; our Clubbie is at 6800 right now.
