They Really Do Exist!

So I went to a mountain biking event over the weekend in Show Low, AZ and at the start venue for the event which was down about a mile long single lane rock strewn cow path that was a challenge for my full size pick up sits a nice looking Clubman WITH AN OEM ROOF RACK. I have always heard rumor of the existence of these racks but this was the first one I have ever encountered in the wild. I guess he made it out of the mud bog (courtesy of the torrential rains towards the end of the event) as I saw him the next day at Safeway with the bikes loaded.

I'm considering a roof rack for my MCCS with the sunroof. Does anyone have the rack with a sunroof. Does it obstruct the view much? How does it affect cabin noise with the sunroof open? BTW the rack pictured in this thread appears to be a Saris rack.

No, not much

Very little if at all I think. I hardly notice it.

Not until i put my kayak on top then it makes it a little hard to see the stars at night.

It does make a little more noise but as long as you put in the whistle stops (rubber pieces in the slots) it is not bad at all.

Oops, on further inspection the label obviously says MINI. My presbyoptic eyes confused the script with SARIS.

Thanks, for the info on the noise with sunroof question. Is there update on the rack that avoids some of the mounting issues noted in another thread? If so how does one assure he is getting the most recent model?

To get the latest model make sure the part number is 82-71-2-149-225.

if it ends -846 or something else then it is an older style one and you should refuse to take it. Make them get you a -225.

Did anyone ever discover what is different between the 846 and the 225?
