Hill assist on automatic Clubman?

Living here in Miami, you don't have any sloped streets, but we do get the occasional steep parking entrance ramp. Today I noticed that if stopped on a steep ramp (While the transmission is in D) and let go my foot off the brake pedal, the pedal becomes stiff and the car does not roll back for like 3-4 seconds, then it releases the brakes if you don't immediately put your feet on the gas pedal.

I tried 3 times with the same results. It seems the transmission sensors detect the incline and the computer automatically sets the brakes for a few seconds to allow time for the foot to transition from the brake to the gas pedal.

Very cool feature. I can see how useful this can be in a city like San Francisco or Seattle. I always was under the impression that Hill Assist was exclusive to the manual transmission MINIs.

By the way, my apologies as I don't post here in NAM as much as I used to. Been very busy with work and family (Both a very good thing ) and now check NAM like 3-4 times a month.

I only have 4,200 miles in our Clubman S and the car continues to meet and exceed all of our expectations.

Hope everyone is having as much fun as we are.

Interesting! I was under the impression it was a manual tranny feature. Good to know.

Yep, me too; thought it was only a manual tranny feature. Thanks for pointing that out , though here in Orlando I've yet to experience it, and who knows when I might find an incline around here!

BTW, been wondering where you've been, ClubmanS. Have missed your very informative posts; glad to know you're still around the boards, even if only occasionally.

I don't have a Clubman but an MCS with an automatic. Found out pulling into my garage from the driveway that it has the Hill Assist feature. I have a slight incline on my driveway.
