I have a 2008 S Clubman. I can pop the bonnet from the cockpit, but the lever mechanism for opening the bonnet does not seem to work. I have been able to open the bonnet twice before, but the location and action necessary are pretty darn cryptic and the manual is less than explicit on locating the under-the-bonnet release and what direction to pull on it. So, admittedly I may be doing the wrong motion, but it feels more like the lever is jammed and not doing what it should to open the bonnet.

Are there any known problems of this sort or does anyone have any advice?

 

Well your signature indicates that you have a Clubman which is not a Gen 1 MINI.
However if the Clubman opens like the Gen 1 MINI's then all you have to do is reach under the right headlight (as you're facing the MINI) and squeeze the lever up till it unlatches the bonnet.
But I'm not sure the Gen 2 Clubman is exactly like the R53's so you may want to post your question in Clubman Talk forum.

 

Sorry for the post in the wrong forum. I did ultimately get the bonnet open by discovering that one must lift the lever along the right side edge and not in the middle of the lever plate.
