Multi Function Steering Wheel Button Quality

I have to say, I was a little dissapointed when I first felt the quality of the MFSW buttons. I thought each button would have a separate indentation. instead, it's sort of a four way toggle. Kind of like a cheap 3rd party playstation controller. Personally, I'm very picky when it comes to buttons. I like buttons that have a quality click when I push them. I hate buttons that are "spongy" in feel and don't provide any sort of feedback. Can those with experience using the MFSW buttons provide some thoughts on the "feel" of these buttons?

Complaints about the cheapness of the "game controller" buttons go back a long way -- they were exactly the same on the 1st gen MINI 3-spoke MFSW. The latest cars from the factory seem to have all-silver buttons (no black stickers), which makes them look even cheaper. Yes they feel spongy although in actual usage they operate okay.

Putting them in the JCW carbon like I did makes up for the spongy feeling a bit

Yeah the new ones don't even have the black stickers. It is just a silver cross with no concept of what each one does. Lame IMHO.

I think it looks OK and they work, so that's all that matters to me!

Next time buy a Ferrari. I'm sure their buttons are better.

I don't think the buttons are great, but I can definitely tolerate them. I preferred the original MFSW on my '03 MCS - the buttons were behind the steering wheel and had a better feel, allowing you to operate them without taking your hands off the wheel. They added more buttons in the newer MFSW, so the behind-the-wheel setup wouldn't have worked any more.

Bottom line, I think the feel of the new buttons could be better, but they work fine for me, and I don't really worry about them much. I'm much more bothered by the bizarre choice of putting the radio volume button down below the radio controls. Whose idea was that? Even my MA told me, "I know you'll think this is crazy, but the volume **** is down here..."

Honestly though, I think it adds to the quirkyness. Since I have the MFSW, I hardly touch that **** anyway. But I actually think it's fun when your passengers try to change the volume and change the station instead. Then I get to say, "Look at what you did! See, that's why the driver is in command!"

I'm happy with the buttons. They at least light up for the night.

Personally, I like the way the MFSW works. Especially the cruise control buttons although turning off the cruise at highway speed (90+) doesn't slow the car down fast enough to keep you from touching the brakes for the idiots in the Caddies in the left lane.

My 08 switch does not look like the picture I saw earlier in the post, the buttons have icons on them that are easy to understand.

I did not like the original buttons that were on my MFSW that were silver with light colored symbols. Luckily when they changed out the steering wheel to the Hot Chocolate that it ordered they scratched the button surround and had to replace it. When they installed the new one in had black buttons with gray symbols and it looks much better.

I still do not like the way the button action feels but i am getting more used to it. They need to put more response into the feel of the button.

Exactly, from what I remember, the buttons needed to "push back." Honda tends to make great steering wheel buttons that feel great, so I know it can't be too much of a cost.
