What a day (major rattle solved)
What a day...
I had taken in my Clubman with abot 1000 miles on it for a very loud rattle from the 3rd door. It sounded like the glass was hitting something hard. At that time, the dealer thought they fixed it but no luck.
I took it in today again for the rattle. The girl at the dealership informs me that I have eggs on my MINI and that they can see if it can be washed. What the heck! True enough, I managed to get egged at night and didn't notice it. The dealer washed it all off and you can see the spot where the egg hit, lots of little scratches on the C-pillar. They even called a local detailer to come and buff it which I thought was very nice of them.
A service tech and I took the MINI for a looooong ride all over to duplicate the rattle. Even though I could hear it, he wasn't able to. We went back, got a different service tech, and out we went for a drive. This time, it rattled a lot and consistently, which the tech acknowedged he can hear it too. Went back to the dealership. After 10 minutes, I was called to the service area for a little show and tell. They took the door panel off the 3rd door and showed me the window. The bottom of the glass itself has a metal plate epoxied to it. The glass is attached to the door framem by this metal plate. Guess what, the epoxy failed and the glass was loose there. With different temperatures, the gap between the glass and this metal plate would change and rattle more/less. They are ordering me a new glass, tint it and will install next week. Overall, it was a stressful morning. But I am very glad that 1) I wasn't imagining the rattle, 2) was able to duplicate it, 3) will be fixed. BTW, they are installing chrome mirror caps for free too. Got a letter from MINI stating my car was suppose to be shipped with them, but they made a mistake. If you got a rattle by the passenger side, make sure you check the 3rd door glass.

Had the same thing with my clubman minus the loud rattle. I had wind coming in and had to drive cross country with the loud noise. Dealer also had to order window and then the trim because they said when that window is replaced the trim comes off also. It's the trim between the club door and front door. Of course it was on back order LOL. All fixed now.

Well, looks like I have the same issue. More of a buzz than a rattle, and it's been intermittent. Dealer took some time to reproduce it today but then verified what we've been hearing. They're going to order a new Club door panel - I'm a bit surprised that it can't be fixed without new parts, but I'll get further explanation when I pick it up tomorrow.

Yucholian, that's a great looking Clubman! I had some minor rattles in my Cooper S and it was a great feeling getting them taken care of without much hassle. That is really cool they had your exact car you wanted in stock. I was going crazy waiting for my Mini last year! That's the best color Clubman I've seen!
Ditch those white driving lamp covers and get black ones. Part number is 63120432836. That's for 1 cover, not a pair so order 2.
