dealer installed tops

Hi

I've got some rattles coming from the top, some wear that i could call excessive, and i'm just wondering casually
1) when the dealer replaces the top, is it easy for them? Do they generally do a good job, or is it a complicated thing they typically screw up that i want to avoid having them do? I'd love to do it myself, but i can't seem to find a manual anywhere around here....

2) what's a new top cost non-warranty? In warranty? installed?

3) If the glass in the back breaks, do you really need a whole new top?

thanks!

I haven't had the top replaced, yet, but I've got some of those "fading spots" happening and am going to wait until it's closer to the warranty running out before I complain about getting a replacement. I have had it "adjusted, though, due to a water leak over the passenger side window.

I don't know what it costs if you're out of warranty, but I'm sure it's $$$$! I don't think I would attempt replacing it myself, especially just "guessing" without instructions.

Yes, if the back window breaks, you must replace the entire top.

From my experience it usually takes 2 days for the dealer to replace the top. I have never had it replaced outside of warranty, but from what I hear it is in the $1000-$2000 range. The only problem I had with the dealer installed one was that then the top hook wouldn't line up, which they just adjusted and it was fine.
If the back glass gets broken yes the whole top has to be replaced. people posted on MINI2 about how their insurance companies didn't want to pay for a whole new top.

Since the dealers have had (ahem) lots of practice replacing the tops, they're getting good. Mine was done in under a day and cost me $0 under warranty. You would never know it wasn't the factory installation.

My dealer told me...

-A brand new top costs $3,000, including labor to install.
-Yes. If your back window breaks, they have to replace the entire top.

That's according to Thomas at Global Imports here in Atl. (Those were some of my very first questions when I bought Nemo!)

2 days for my new top. All covered under warranty. The rattle I had went away & so far no new wear issues with the new top. I am about 1/2 way thru my warranty & you can be sure if I see any wear at all on this top that I will get a new one before the warranty runs out.
