R52 Windshield Replaced
Windshield Replaced
Safelite Autoglass replaced my windshield today for a total cost of $241.00 (parts 115.24, labor 120, tax 5.76) Reinstalled rain sensor and two new windshield moldings. Windshield is made by Pilkington and seems to be just the right tint. Hopefully it will be better than the OEM. I submitted a report to NHTSA. Others that have experienced cracking should do the same.
Good price!
Had the same done (Safelite/Pilkington) for $315, and I thought I got a bargain compared to other quotes. It's been about 2 months, and I've already got a few new pits, so here we go again.
I've just come to accept this is a fact of Mini ownership.

windshield? How difficult was that?
I don't have rain sensing wipers. I got my windshield replaced Tuesday for $230 & they reused the A-Pillars with no problem (Global Imports had told me the A-Pillars were for one time use only but miniusa refuted this & said they could be reused).
I told the glass company when I placed the order that I wanted PPG glass. They tried to force CSG glass on me (dunno if that brand is good or not but I wanted PPG based on multiple NAM recomendations). I refused the CGS glass so they located a PPG windshield but the installer broke it while installing
so the company agreed that if I accepted the CSG glass they would replace it if anything ever happens to it (including a crack caused by a rock) so I figured I couldn't beat that guarantee & went w/the CSG.
The installer did a great job after he got done breaking the 1st windshield
. I used Diamond Triumph Glass (I think they are a national company)

I just got a quote for replacement with PPG glass for $216.
Not sure what I'm going to do. I feel like the crack is a stress crack -- it is located in a classic stress crack location, but there is an impact about an inch and a half from the top that is thisclose to the crack. Actually, a crack pretty much anywhere on the windshield would probably intersect with a chip.
I've got an '03 MC with 40,000 miles and this is the original windshield. I guess that, in itself, is an achievement.
