Does anyone know as to whether Mini will continue production of their current platform convertible, until the replacement convertible is available? It seems that BMW employs this practice with the 3-series automobiles, usually introducing the new platform on the 4-door, and continuing production of the 3-series coupe and convertible for a year or so on the older platform. The difficulty for Mini may be their ability to be supplied with their 1st generation powerplants, and production of 2 platforms in one plant. My understanding is that the Mini plant in Oxford is closed until January 13, 2006 to allow for expansion of the plant, perhaps to accomodate seperate production of the older platform while the new 2007 platform is introduced later this year???
