Why is this yellow air bag light on in the header panel between the switches in my 2006 R52 JCW car? It is a factory USA spec car, LHD. It does not make any difference if someone is sitting in the seat or not, does not make any difference if seat belt is connected or not.
There are no codes or pending codes for the SRS system. I have two scanners and know how to use them, one is Snap-On, the other scanner is Foxwell. The passenger seat mat has already been replaced under warranty. Light was on before and after replacement.
I do not have one of the ON-OFF switches in the end of the dash frame like the overseas cars do.....
I posted this in the R52 Facebook group and most there cannot read what I wrote and keep saying that it's the recall mat in the passenger seat
Am I correct in thinking that the passenger air bag has been turned OFF somehow? If so, can I get it turned back on, or does it have to be coded to get the light off? I just don't like warning lights on all the time. If and when I decide to sell the car, I don't want any issues because of that light being on
I’m pretty sure disabling the airbag requires coding, so it being disabled would seem odd to me. If you have access to INPA, I would try reading and clearing codes with that just to make sure your scanners aren’t missing something from the MRS system.
When I coded out my passenger occupancy sensor, I seem to remember having to try clearing codes multiple times before I succeeded in getting the light to go out, but it may just have been me not getting the coding/clearing/unplugging sequence right. I can’t recall if I had a light on and no codes though.
Per my original post, there are no codes or pending codes in the SRS system. (I just came back in from scanning the car with both my scanners, still the same result, no codes)
I have two quality scanners here, both are up to date and read all the items in BMW and Mini computer modules and platforms. Bring your code reading device over and if you can find codes in my car for the SRS system that mine cannot read, I will give you the car.
The only codes I have are for the rear LED lights, which have nothing to do with the air bag system
Your comments of "pretty sure", "seem to remember" , & "can't recall" tells me that you really don't know and are just guessing. If you don't have anything positive to contribute in this thread, just scroll on by.
Nah, I just don’t go monkeying with the ABG module often, so I don’t remember for sure offhand what’s in that trace file. I don’t think I’ll bother getting that old laptop out to check it at this point. Best of luck.
