R52 Fuel filter cap issue

Fuel filter cap issue
My 2005 mini cooper s fuel filter cap is leaking fuel on top so I believe it’s cracked. Do not want to buy a new assembly. I tried a used cap but it was from a R52 non S and the fuel system would not prime. I put the bad cap back on and it was fine. I was able to find a used 2008 cap but not sure if that will work. The 2008 looks like it uses the same cap whether a S or not. Does anyone have any insight at all?

The older caps have a green inside end and then they updated all to the black and blue seal. New ones are not that much. Also the click function on the cap can fail, so with a new one you fix that also.

Sorry, thought it was the fuel cap. On the fuel filter its that top cap.

The seal part number updated in 8/2007.
The ring cap is the same. https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/16116762417/
You have to make sure it seats. The problem with the seals when new is they are really thick and you have to press down the ring and tighten with the seal.
I linked the tool also that helps.

Is it usually the big seal that leaks when you have gas on top of the cap? I was told the cap is cracked but I don’t see any cracks and the fuel line to the cap is not leaking. That would be nice if it’s just the big seal. I did notice the seal was seated. I replaced the filter and seals but used a hammer and screwdriver to tighten the ring like everyone says.

Yes, you can do that but you have to make sure the seal does seal correctly. If it does not then people will have starting problems. The tool just makes it easier why pressing down evenly.
The only other seals is this one that can leak. Well its the clip.
