Convertible top not working

Hi, I am new here new to using a forum. I have searched this forum, the internet, YouTube and have tried many things I have found, but still can't seem to get the top to work. We were parking the car at a store, opened the passenger door when the top was closing and it stopped about half way closing. It would only go back down. (not sure the door happening had anything too do with it, but thought I would include it). So left it open and brought it home, again went most of the way, but the sunroof section would not close. I closed it manually using the tool and manually turning the sunroof motor. It seemed to almost fully close, maybe an 1/8 gap. Tried to open it again, nothing, no power, no red blinking light. I tested the trunk shelf microswitch, it is working. I unplugged this same microswitch and tried a meter on it. Should I be seeing anything? I didn't get anything. I tried manually putting the top back, first manually opening the sunroof, loosening the screw on the pump and putting the top back part way. The sunroof section hits the roll bars so the top doesn't go down. I did try the top switch, it did want to lower the top, but again it would hit. I tried to raise it, but stops when it get to the sunroof section. I have tried looking for Hall sensors, haven't been able to locate a picture of exactly what I am looking for. I did check for chaffed wiring nears the hinges and did not find any. Another thing I noticed was when putting the top forward manually, where the front rail connect to the second one, there is a C-shaped (bracket/clip) that connects/rolls over the front rail to the next one. On the passenger side, it seems to go right on easily, on the drivers side it does not. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! It is an 2005, date of manufacture 01/05.

I have no red light to the top switches at all. The parcel shelf is in place, makes a click as does the switch for the levers in the trunk. I have checked the two fuses under the drivers side and they are good. Seems like no power.

so confused

I kept playing around trying to get anything to happen. I loosen the pump screw, put the top back, it doesn't go all the way as the sunroof part hits the roll bar. I now I have a red light and the pump runs. When I tightened the screw the roof goes up and stops. It doesn't latch and sunroof doesn't close. At this point, there is no red light and it won't retract.
When it is down resting on the roll bar, I can raise it slight and retract it slightly.
Any suggestions what to look for next?

Hi. I had this problem recently. I found this thread attached at bottom (see first post) helpful. Try the listed trouble shooting items (in addition to disconnecting/connecting the battery).
I went through and tried all the options. Nothing worked…that is, until…..I lubed the tracks the top glides on. It didn’t close right after, but after a few times of having it move a little back and forth, I gave a reset one more time and it finally closed/opened properly. I should mention, I did try to nudge the top a little when moving back as to open (suggested in the above link).
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply!! I did check out that page as well. I have tried a few things from there as well. At this point I have removed and lubricated the cables and the channels they go in. I have removed the top back to see the top of the sunroof motor and see where the sensors are in the roof area. I am guessing they are more of a magnet sensor, since one of the cables has longer metal end to it. Checked the two fuses in under the dashboard, they are good. I have removed the panel from rear seat to look at the relays, swapped two around, didn't see any issues. I have released the top motor so I could lower the roof. No matter what position the roof and sunroof is in. it seems I get no power to anything, no clicking anywhere. The tray is in place and microswitches are engaged. I am at a loss what to try next. I don't have have a Mini scan too. I did see a recommendation to get a Schwaben scan tool, I see it can do lots of things, but not sure it can do anything for the convertible system.

I purchased a scan tool to help me out. Not sure where to do with them.
Here's pictures of the error codes it found:

My top go halfway up when it’s down. Once up, it won’t do anything. Did you figure anything out on yours? I’m wanting to get the rest of this cover off. Sounds like you may have done that. Can you advise on how to remove the cover?
