I have a 2006 R52 coopers S Convertible. Need to replace the battery and can’t find the real specs of a battery for it. Does the R52 use AGM battery? Must have AGM battery?

I went to O’Reilly’s to get my battery for my clubby. They do have 2 options, at least for me, that would work, extreme and platinum. The extreme is your regular type of battery and the platinum is an agm, either one should work for you, both come with 3 year warranties. My buddy had an r50 and he ran a regular battery with no issues. I went with an extreme because it was only a 20 dollar difference.

Thank you Jason,
Good to know, I thought my R52 only takes AGM, good to know that it will take either. Did you have to Code it after installing it?
I am getting the AGM though.
Thank you again.

I don’t think you need to code it, it was the later models with IBS that need to be coded, it looks like a fuse on your negative terminal. I could be wrong and I’m sure someone else will chime in, there is a replacement battery thread on here somewhere.

We presently run a Walmart H5 series battery for the last nearly seven years in our 06 R53 with zero problems. I will replace it this year as a preemptive measure. No coding was required. Fit was exact. Drain tube.. perfect fit. Installation..easy. The price/value IMHO is very good. Reviews were above average for the price. Warranty and replacement availability is hard to beat. I did make it a practice of charging it frequently in the winter and otherwise when the MINI sat for several days. I also made a habit of locking it when parked, which according to our MINI tech guru, aka Car Ninja, puts the electrical system to sleep after 16 minutes. I don’t know if all of that has contributed to it’s reliability, but that amount of preventative maintenance so far hasn’t diminished it. Good luck.

Ancient thread revival, I know....
I thought to add that H5 within the "Interstate Battery" online catalog also mentions the Group 47, as in H5 - 47. I guess some of had memorized some of the Frame sizes, and the 47 is apparently that. In my looking, I too chose the boot floor mounted 2006 MCS Cabrio type and it offered the AGM and makes commentary about the exterior vent hose/s. Finally, I think it said that the CCA were 650.
