R52 2006 cooper s convertible boot latch switch

2006 cooper s convertible boot latch switch
95,000 miles
The latch on the boot stopped working. The toggle switch locks and unlocks the doors with no problem.
The only way I can open the boot is to collapse the rear seats and pull the emergency latch.
Removed the trim on the boot.
Took it to the steelership & they said the small black switch is dead & the whole piece needs to be replaced.
$485 painted or $375 in chrome.
My quetion, where can I but a replacement switch ($10?)?
It appears that spicing in a replacement switch would not be difficult and less $ than replacing the whole trim.
Really appreciate your advice
thank you

Yep, I am back from vacation and here to help.
Some people operate on it. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-warranty.html
R56 version of the DIY microswitch. I have not seen this work on the Gen 1 MINI yet. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ing-diy-3.html
But you are missing the little rubber gasket? If so it will get water in there and corrode the whole handle.
