R52 found a broken down r-52 S
found a broken down r-52 S
I found a mini convert S on craigslist. It has 200K miles on it. Hi milage I know. states it runs but overheasts quick. I am 98% sure it needs a supercharger. I have a supercharger in my garage that has ware on it but would get this thing running. When I replaced my supercharger it took me 8 hours. I can buy this mini for $4K and sell for possibly more or keep it. I am torn. I think I want it. I can repair at my leasure and after 200K with my r-53 I know how to repair everything. Worst case it already has a warped head. that would add 20 Hrs to the repair and $1K to the repair price. Humm what to do. What to do.
There is more to overheat than just the SC. It could get expensive and need a new bottom end if driven much while hot. The top could get expensive fast too. Maybe it's worth 7k if in good condition. Seems like a lot of risk and work to maybe make $2k.
+1
could be anything, even a cracked head/block....maybe run without oil? Or just a bad crank damper?!
I would by it cheap enough to allow you to drop an entire motor in it....
lets face it...
if the owner could fix it, and sell it and not loose $$, they would have done it unless they are not very smart....
Plus you don't know what else is broken....
So unless you can deal with needed a $3500 used motor (guess) and possibly a top repairs or some other unknown issues....IMO price it as a parts car...a NON-Runner...and if you get it, and find you can fit it...great! Also with winter coming, Cabrio prices tend to weaken (in most of the country)....

I decided to pass as it is not worth the risk. Besides it would consume my $ for my r-53 restoration. It would be cool to have but you guys are right. Not worth the risk.
