R52 What is a good scanner?
What is a good scanner?
Need a good scanner, user-friendly, not too complicated. I need to be able to read the codes, erase them when car is fixed, be able to diagnose transmission codes, reset airbag lights,......etc. I don't want the cables that you hook up to a computer, I don't want it to be very complicated. I want to be able to work on BMWs in specific, but most imports in general. If one includes most cars that is great. Any suggestions? I have a descent experience in doing diagnosis without any scanner, but I am sure it will help me as I am a wholesaler. Thanks
one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wi-Fi-ELM-32.../181118462459? and a free android smart phone app (theres about a dozen or so in the play store) works fine of reading/clearing codes, and some sensors. The paid versions on apps give you more options, but i haven't tried them yet. If you have an Apple producti'm told wifi based readers are better. If you want something stand alone, there's the "scan gauge" and "ultra gauge" but are considerably more expensive.

I hope you have deep pockets.
Most sub $150 scanners are only OBDII generic (engine/trans data).
For body modules, you are looking at professional level stuff starting at several thousand bucks..
We have two SNAP-ON VERUS units, they are *fantastic*... But were 15 Grand each with software..
Yup....if you want bairbag resetting, that ups the $$$ from most any consumer ODB2 READER to $$$$ pro shop unit....
