I have an 08 Cooper S JCW Cabrio and was washing the car this morning and noticed something that I don't remember seeing on the front grill. There is a threaded round hole on the passenger side of the grill. I don't remember if there was a badge here or something else. Was something stolen? Was there a badge here before? Here's a pic.

 

Its for the tow hook. There should be an insert that marches the grill. Looks like yours fell off.

that's where the tow hook would attach. There is a little plastic cover over it and your's has apparently fallen out...

That doesn't look like an '08 to me... That's definitely where the tow hooks are on a Gen 1, though.

Oh, never mind - it's a cabrio. My bad.
