Cloth top wear spots
After 6 1/2 years and almost 120K, much with the top down, I'm starting to get some pretty significant wear spots. I think they are in areas that rub when the top is down. The worst is near the left upper rear corner. It does not leak yet that I'm aware of. I googled the obvious "convertible top band-aid", "convertible top repair patch", and didn't see anything that looked promising. Does anyone have any experience with a material that would serve as a chafe-guard? I realize it might not look great, but I accept that the car has got some years on it and I am just trying to extend the life of this top a bit.
I'm watching mine closely too. I've read more than one suggestion for fitting a piece of felt between the folds where the worse wear shows. You'd have to remember they were there if you needed to run the head up along the road somewhere or carry a supply of extras. All I've got so far a a few shiney spots at 65K top down near 90% of the time.
The days of home improvement are over. I replaced the canvas on my XK roadster I got from JC Whitney with nothing more than a box of tacks a tack hammer and a beer or two. That was 40 some years ago.

The outer top fabric is virtually identical to Sunbrella marine fabric (produced by the same company in NC). Check with a company that does boat fabric and/or awnings. They can likely get you the correct color fabric and help you with the patching.
