R52 MPG for '05-08 convertible?
MPG for '05-08 convertible?
So what kind of gas mileage are you all getting with the '05-08 convertible Mini? I'm mostly interested in the non-S model, but all are welcome to reply, just indicate which model you have. Thanks!
Since the drivetrain is the same as the coupe (hardtop) from 02'-06', there are a million threads!!
Just look at the modifications and driving style when weighing a persons MPG as good/bad/fair...
Good Luck!

Frankly, it's going to depend more on your driving style than what others have reported.
For what it's worth (likely nothing): I drive an 06 JCW cabriolet. I'm lucky to get in the low 20's. But then that's around town and I've got a very large lead foot. On a long trip, steady droning on the freeway at 70 to 75, I'll get in the high 20's. If I drop the speed to 65, I can get into the 30's.

I have 2005 Cooper S Convertible. Bought it with 26K miles on it.
A friend told me that I will take a few weeks to loosen it up a bit....any thoughts?
I have the on-board computer on my MINI. Plus, I modified my car alot. Perhaps, even in winter conditions in Canada (often around 0°F), the on-board computer states the car is doing 33mpg in 50% city / 50% highway at this moment.
EDIT: My MINI is a '05 MCSc with around 240hp at the engine.

Mileage is affected the most by driving habits. The posted milage, city/highway, is very, very conservative and involves driving much easier than 99% of us drive. And a much lower speeds. So, I'm not surprised that others get in the very low 20's.

Wow Really??? I just got my Mini on Monday the 27th, so far I am getting combined 19mpg. Granted i have been a little heavy on it being that I just got it, but I was expecting more. According to docs, it should do 27/35.

People who wouldn't know better ask me what kind of milage I get with my '06 MCSc. My standard answer is "I don't care, it was adopted for fun not for milage and I drive it accordingly".
I've had my '05 MCSc for about 2 years and have averaged just under 29 mpg - low of about 25 and highest was about 31 mpg. I am generally pretty conservative but do "let her run" enough to remember this is a really fun drive...
I keep a spreadsheet to keep track of that very thing. I have a 2006 non-S cabrio and this includes a mix of driving routes over a year and a half that I've kept track; a 3500 mile road trip, a few weeks doing a paper-delivery route, a regular highway (no traffic) commute, and commuting into the city (stop and go traffic) for work.
Average: 28.6 MPG
Low: 18.1 MPG (paper route)
High: 38.7 MPG (road trip)

I thought it might be one of those (the Mazda Tribute is another variation). My wife likes having an SUV (currently a Mazda CX-7) and looks at me funny when I've tried to sell her on getting a Prius, so getting her onto a better gas mileage SUV is probably my best bet.
Well I got new high octane gas today, and I also put it a bottle of injector cleaner, and it seems I'm getting much better mpg. I drove about 75 miles today mixed driving (40c/60h) and got an aveage of 24.6mpg being rather conservative.....up to3k rpm from 1 to 3rd, and less than 3k for the rest. 8 also noticed that around 80mph on the hwy, I was getting about 31-33mpg, which is about 10mpg more than before.....
While I agree that I am not necesarily driving this car for gas savings, it is certainly a welcomed side-effect. If the masses are getting 28/29 I know that I should target around 26 or so, anything below that would indicate the car is out of whac and needs servicing.

My 05 Cabrio non-s gets around 30 around town and I've had a high of 42 running 65 on the highway... Using the computer I probably avg just a hair over 30 combined... Most of my driving is short trips from from the house with an occasional 20-30 mile jaunt on the highway..
Mileage
MCS Cabrio:
I average 27 - mostly city driving, but only about 30 highway. In the city, I shift early and run at or below 2,000 RPM most of the time. That's what gets the mileage. Of course I hit red line occasionally out in the country and go fast around corners. More spirited country driving nets me about 26 or so. Converting to the new EPA numbers, the 2006 MCS Cabrio would be rated 19 city, 29 highway. These numbers have held even after all the mods.

Throughout the winter, I averaged 30.1 (per the onboard computer). The weather turned warmer, I did a lot of basic maintenance and spent the past two weeks doing a lot of highway driving for work. Now the average is 33.4 and I noticed about 42 mpg on the highway driving 65 to 70ish. Straight roads I drive relatively mild but I pound on the accelerator through the twisties. I have a non S.
I've got an '05 MCS Convertible and average low 20's (actual calculations/not trip computuer, which is almost always high in estimation). This is almost entirely 'round town driving in 1 ~ 3rd gear, with a high "fun" factor/heavy foot. (Evidenced by my newly installed 4st set of front tires...at 27,000 miles ~ but smiles all the way!) When taken on an all freeway trip, I'm high 20's.
Must fun I've ever had in a car ~ well, almost!

Mileage 2006 MCS Cabrio
You are correct not to rely completely on the trip computer. I divide the miles driven by fuel fill up each time. That said, the on-board computer average indicates 27.6 MPG which is about what I actually get each time I fill up. So, maybe it isn't too far off. Last Saturday I burned 8.6 gallons of non-ethanol premium and drove 240 miles, most of that was with the PDX-MINI club run - 180 miles of spirited driving on hilly roads around Portland.
My last tank was an actual 29, which was a combination of town and country, and some 70 MPH freeway.
