replacing windshield wipers - how?

I have a leased 2007 MC base coupe. Is it OK to just replace the the windshield rubber blades or do I have to replace the whole arm? I just noticed the rubber separating from the top end of the blade. This is my first time with MC. In the past with Honda Civic or American car I would replace the original manufacture rubber blade (less than$20 for pair). Is replacement similar to Honda Civic type with two flat metal supports the rubber insert from the sides? Thank you.

On my last free maintenance visit the dealer just replaced the rubber blades. Here's a link that discusses insert replacement. Good luck.

Thank you BuzzSaw

I have free oil change coming up - so that would be the time to ask if they replace the rubber blades as part of service. If they want $$$ to replace the arms - I will head over to the parts dept and pick up the rubber blades DIY.

I just bought these for $6.99 from Advance Auto, which comes with a pair of refills. I don't know how long they will last, but they can't be must worse than the OEM's. They are the break off style, so I just made sure to break them off according to the size of the OEM's that I just removed. They literally took about 15 minutes tops. The only thing is one of the clasps on each blade is very tight, so you may need pliers to slightly separate them.

When I am up for my annual service in February, I will ask the dealer to change them, since they did not do it last February.

I was advised to keep the driver's side arm oe and just replace the blade since that arm appears to be aerodynamically designed to hold the blade down on the windscreen.

The dealer replaces the whole thing for you at no charge if you in the first 3 years or 36,000 miles (at least that was the deal back when I got my 04).

But how are you leasing a 2007 Mini and only just now replacing the wiper blades?!

Thanks Kimbo - will keep the Trico brand in mind if the dealer does not replace.

I agree with Buzz - keep the original arm unless it has a issue.

Bee1000 - to tell the truth, I was not noticing that they did any wiper changes during my visits to dealer. The service person never mentioned it. Yesterday, I was doing some serious detailing with Meguires - Vinyl protectant, Scratch X, Plastic X, Clay bar and double waxing. It caught my eye that the blades were separating a inch from the top. They may have been changing them all along based on what was said here. I will ask them to look at the record and catch up. Right now it is under 30,000 miles and it will be three years in January (lease is finished).
