SOS Ready to trade in my Mini that I love!

Hi,
I haven't been on this site for awhile because I wanted to sell my belove Mini. I had problems with my convertible top. I was told I had to pay 3,000 to fix it even the the original problem began during warranty. All last summer I had to keep the top up . I finally found someone who tracked down the VP and emailed him. He got a response immediately and the car was fixed on them...they called it a "goodwill" move. Well, I'm just glad it got fixed...I'm not sure that is what I would have called it. I'm sure a few of you remember this problem.

I just got back from CharlestonSC after having a ball driving my Mini with the top down. Well, on the way back I didn't. The red light was flashing. I checked everything I was supposed to check in the trunk and only the sunroof would open. I'm praying that someone on this site will have a quick fix! It would be just wonderful if I was able to jump in my Mini and get up on the Cherahala Skyway (10 mi.) and enjoy the ride.

Please tell me it's nothing electricial!! The more I read about the O5's the more I think about trading it in before another major problem arises. So if there is ANYONE out there who can help me...I will LOVE you!

Lily

I took mine to my SA the first time it did that and he showed me in the trunk that there were two handles...one left...one right...pulled the handles to open the lid inside the boot...lifted the lid (glass rests on it) and put it down...put the handles back...it worked, even from the Sunroof open position.

Also check that the rear deck lid is seated properly. This is a safety feature that protects tht top from damage if the rear deck cover is out of place. It will allow it to open in the sunroof position but not all of the way.

Dealerships call it a goodwill as it's something they decide to do when a warranty is up. Pretty common terminology and have done this a few times at the dealer I used to work at. Yes, if the parcel shelf is removed, as a safety feature, the top will not open. Post #3 here with a description about the button under the left rear bracket.
