Door lock module autopsy done...results here

2005 MCSc: My drivers side door lock module failed (like many others). Symptoms were typical in that the door would lock, but not unlock with the remote or the lock switch. I installed a new lock module and all is ok. But, I wanted to see why these were failing, so I disassembled the module and found that one of the two electric motors (the one sitting on the work bench) had burned out. Applying 12 volts directly to the motor would cause it to run, but just barely. Sometimes the motor would not even start without a little help.

Problem is the motors are too unique to have any hope of finding replacements. So, I supose I could salvage the good motor and use it to rebuild the passenger door if it should fail in the same manner. Or, some of you with failed modules could send them to me

Those motors, depending on exact size, look like slot car motors from the 70's. They are still around, and more powerful. Check out some slot car sites. It pays to still be a kid!

There was a time when "over-engineering" a component makes it more durable.
