TPM on the 08 Cabrio

I posted this question over on the Stock Problems forum but thought I'd repost here for the dedicated Cabrio crowd...

Can anybody confirm that late production runs (Feb 08) of the 08 Cabrio did not use the 2nd Gen TPM system (sensor in the wheel)? The dealer indicated that my MINI has the wheel speed sensor but my Owners Manual indicates that it uses the in-wheel electronic sensor and the valve stem cap says "TPM Inside!"

Any advice?

Thanks,

Al

Your manual (and valve stems) are correct - you have the in-wheel sensors. I'm pretty sure the old indirect (wheel speed-based) TPMS was phased out in September of 2007.

Scott - thanks for the confirmation. I bought a set of S-lite 17's that did not have the sensors in them. Any idea if I can move the sensor from my OEM 15's to the S-lites?

I'm pretty sure that you can transfer them over, but I'm not sure of the details. (I have the "old and inferior" TPMS rather than your "new and improved" version--)

Well - every silver cloud has a grey lining!!! Old school system valve stem - $7.00, "new and improved" TPM valve stem - $70.00, same data display (idiot light in speedo)...

Thanks for the feedback...
