R52 Electrical weirdness?
Electrical weirdness?
Last night, my dcs light went on, then the brake light, then assorted warning lights on and off, the radio went off, the inside console lights where going on/off at random, and I heard rapid clicking sounding like it was coming from the dash. I lost my power steering. I got home, turned the car off, and was unable to start the car again. I heard the rapid clicking one final time.
This morning, with a volt meter, the battery was registering 12.00, but the car did not turn over. I hooked up the electric starter, and the car started. I took the starter off, and left the car running for about an hour. Over the course of the hour, the various warning lights went out one by one. The funniest thing, tho.. is that the lights are turned off (left stem on the steering wheel) BUT THE RUNNING LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS, AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON!
Does anyone have any idea what may be going on, and how much it should cost to fix - my warranty ran out over 9 months ago.
:(
thanks.

I might start with disconnecting the battery for a while, then reconnecting it and see if the weirdness persists. If it does, I'd consider waiting till Monday ans ask that the dealer tow it in (if under warranty) for fear of something drastic happening at speed..
12.0 volts is not enough voltage to start the car.
12.4 is the lowest it will probably take to start the car and power up the electronics.
It could be a dead cell in the battery. Could be the alternator acting up. These cars will do odd things when low on current and amperage.

Just a guess, it could be the body control module. My 05 Cabrio started doing strange electrical things along with the battery going dead at 34K. They replaced the BCM & the battery. But it would not be a cheap fix for a car out of warranty.

Lois, how much did this cost you? I havent brought the car in yet, now I see my top won't go down all the way (stops after the sunroof opens) and the rear windows won't go down independantly.
