new Cabrio feature needed

Am I the only one who does this periodically? After leaving the top down at work, I get in and immediately start my car, then realize my sunglasses are locked in the glovebox. . . So I have to shut off the car, unlock the glovebox, etc. etc.

All Cabrios need a keyless lock on the glovebox just like on the doors!

it would be nice to be able to hit the lock fob and have the glovebox lock and unlock with the doors.

This is why I love my parcel shelf - that's where my sunglasses are.

Yeah but then I'd have to pull over, stop the car, undo my seatbelt, get out and open the hatch just to get my glasses....

I do the same thing as the OP. I lock my gun, radar detector and glasses in the glovebox.

Then, as I start to go down the road, I realize my box is locked. Once on a straight deserted highway, I actually pulled the key out while the car was running 25'ish, unlocked the glovebox and stuck the key back in.

Not the brightest move but no one was around and it was a straight road so at least I didn't have to worry about turning the steering wheel.

Let the flames begin....

I've done that often . . . but I have my valet key in my wallet, so I usually pull that out and mess with the glove box while still driving

What's a "front" parcel shelf? Is that the divider/organizer that fits in the glovebox? Am I missing a cool item?

I was thinking it was a little wierd to put glasses on the rear package shelf but what do I know?

Mark

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a pic...that's too cool. I want one.

I wasn't sure if you were serious or joking about stopping and getting out to go to the back of the car. Figured I would go with joking, and I was wrong. Wasn't meaning to sound like I was making fun of you.

If you can get a front parcel shelf, they're definitely worth the money.

It's all cool. Being in the bodyshop business, when someone says package/parcel shelf, they're usually referring to the back shelf under the rear glass and in our cases, the removable "tray" in the back.

I had never heard of a parcel shelf in the front. I think it's cool but not for almost 200 bucks. Forget that.

Yes, they are pricey, ever since the supplies became kind of limited a while back. They occasionally show up for sale here on NAM for a lot less, though. We have them on both of our MINIs, and honestly, I'd probably spend the $200 if I ever had to replace one. It's definitely one of my top three favourite interior mods (behind the Whalen shift **** and Ian's "auto-up" window circuit).

Thanks Scott (as usual, you're full of great advice) perhaps I'll keep my eyes open for one. I did a google search and came across them for 69 bucks shipped.

I thought wow, what's wrong with that deal? Then I looked at the 2002 date on the webpage.

Thanks again,

Mark

Is that the front shelf that is also referred to as a Euro Parcel Shelf? Does anyone know if anyone sells it still?

Yes, it's the "Euro Parcel Shelf". Moss Mini has it here for $139. (They call it the "factory parcel tray", but it's the right part.)

Thanks Scott, I had just done a Google search and found it at Mini Mania for $189 and some change, so that is a MUCH better deal

I would also be interested in this feature. Nothing like going through a toll booth with no change and the IPass locked in the glove box. Like eager I end up digging for the valet key in my wallet.

The European Parcel Shelf is the first and one of the best "mods" I did to my cabrio. Highly recommended.

I got an '08 MC for a loaner the other week and the thing I missed the most was the extra storage of the parcel shelf.

I would love an easy way to unlock the glove box w/o the key. I keep my Garmin and my iPod in there, and want to keep them locked up while parked, but almost always forget to unlock the glove box before I start motoring....
