R52 Rear Fog Light on Cabrio
To spend $100 to fill up the toggle switch bank is ridiculous IMO, though lots of NAM'ers differ with me on this. If you live in an area which is prone to fog, then it may be a good idea. If not, then it's probably not worth it. I have driven behind car's with rear fogs in clear weather and to me it presents an unsafe condition. Admittedly, I have not seen Mini's application, but other manufacturer's make the lights too bright to the point where they are a serious distraction.

I had refrained from ranting on this thread as I have in others . . . until now.
Here's what I wrote in another thread regarding the use of fog lights at times other than low-visibility (fog, rain):
"I have no issue with use of front fog lights - afterall, they're designed to be low and are aimed low so that, in heavy fog which tends to be some inches off the ground, they light up the way without reflecting back at the driver like high-beams. . . . in other words, they should not be blinding on-coming traffic.
The rear fog, however, is a completely different issue 'cause those are meant to point right at the driver behind you so they can spot your car in heavy fog. . . in other words, they should - and do - point right at the guy behind you, which is really annoying in non-fog conditions."
Admitedly, MINI fogs are not as annoying as those on Mercs and Volvos -- but they are still annoying (by design) to the car behind you. So my take on them is: use them in rain or fog (that's what they are for) but please don't just drive with it on every night just 'cause you have it.
Edit -- there's a reason it's illegal to do so in most European countries (where many more cars are equipped with them)
My 2 cents.

Actually, we saw the one at Schomp when they got it. It was originally at East Bay MINI in Concord, CA and we almost went to see it when we were in San Francisco a few weeks ago. We've been waiting to see a White Silver MINI in person...
But, that one is not ours. I just found out that Wellington is sitting in Southampton, thumb outstretched, waiting to hitch a ride across the water...

i bet wellington is lonely sitting there. let's hope there's another MINI with him to keep him company?

I'm hoping to find a way to retask a spy satellite to I can check on him (they do it all the time in the movies). I want to make sure he is warm and dry (looks like cloudy, som rain, and highs in the 60s in Southampton this week.
1) Best $100 I ever spent. Because I'd be continuously fixated on the missing toggle if I hadn't. I'm just weird that way...
2) Agreed that you shouldn't drive around with the light on when there is no fog.
3) The kit to wire it as an additional brake light is quite effective IMHO. I love it. My biggest fear in the MINI is being rear ended... that helps reduce my fear...

I'll keep him in my thoughts. From what I understand, he will have buddies with him to keep him company
