R52 Where can a newbie learn?
Where can a newbie learn?
Hi all....
Well, as obviously I am still in 1st gear, I'm new to the MINI stuff. Got mine in February and have a TON to learn. So, the question is, where do I go to do basic reading, etc. on my car and get up to speed? A lot of the stuff I am finding is way too technical for me. I'm not a dummy by any means, but I'm just not car smart (musician by education and half a lawyer, haha 48 hours of law school before I wised up and quit the madness).
I want to learn about the different specs on my car and how they work, what is actually in my engine, etc., and go from there regarding mods so that I can actually have intelligent conversations with car people and not look like an idiot who just bought a cool car. And I want to get to the point where I can actually get a mod and do it if I want to without feeling like I am going to #$#&*$& up my baby. In other words, I don't want to look like a "chick with a cool car". I want to actually be ONE WITH MY MINI.
HELP!!!!!!
Valerie
P.S. Also having trouble naming her.....ARGH.

Join the STL MINI Club, attend events, talk to the veterans & continue to hang out on NAM & read as much as you can
That's what I did
I'm on my second MINI & can honestly say I know as much about them as most of the guys

One of the best resources for me has been other owners. The few MINI events I've attended were great for picking up ideas, then as I needed more info I would ask here-either in a thread or by PM. NAM is a great resource and if someone gives you too technical an answer, just ask for a simplified version. Since you have an MCS, there are many performance mods you can do, but I don't have an S so I'm not real knowledgable about a lot of them.
Have you called MINIUSA to find out the packages/options your car had when it was built?

Read the post under Coupe Talk 02-06, things you didn't know about your Mini, there is alot of info there. Like Nathan (Gnatster) said ask questions here most people are very helpful and will enlighten you, LOL. Also think about subscribing to MC2 magazine. There are alot of good articles and some that will literally walk you through doing a mod to your Mini. If you don't feel comfortable asking a question in a post send a PM to one of us and we'll get you an answer. Have fun and enjoy that Mini. Gman aka Gary BTW I got through 6 months before I wised up.
